Books and seals have been linked naturally since ancient times. On November 20th, the "Partition Wall Distribution - Chen Hui Calligraphy seal engraving exhibition" hosted by Jing'an District Library will be held in the Customs Building of Jing'an District Library, including a book seal engraved by Chen Hui, a famous seal engraver and member of Xiling Printing Society, for the Jing'an District Library.

This tibetan book seal is printed with Chinese brick characters, and the dot canvas is evenly arranged and stopped, and the boundaries between each word are divided, which has a sense of simple order. However, there are two calligraphic characters in this seal, and Chen Hui adopts the method of simplifying one word and one word and one word complexity to deal with it, and removes the boundary between the last two words "hidden" and "book", and enlarges the last "book" word, and the first horizontal ascension of this word is parallel to the boundary grid. Due to the clever handling, there is no sense of abruptness. It shows the ingenuity of the seal engraver.

■ Chen Hui

Chen Hui studied under Mr. Qian Junzao, a famous seal engraver and former vice president of Xiling Printing Society. Mr. Qian Junzao is a student of Mr. Lu Xun, a pioneer in the art of binding, and a famous seal engraver and calligrapher of contemporary China who is "one body of three arts, ninety perfect peaks". Mr. Qian once engraved a book for Mr. Ding Jingtang, "Paper and ink are longer than gold stones", which comes from Lu Xun's 1934 letter to Zheng Zhenduo.

Chen Hui has won the mantle of Mr. Qian Junzao, and has been working hard for decades, green out of blue, carrying knives like pens or going to a higher level. The seals engraved by it flow gracefully, beautifully, peacefully and diluted, and full of ancient meaning. Chen Hui's side print has become more and more fascinating after years of accumulation, and the knife marks perfectly present a thick and dry wet ink rhyme, just like various fonts jumping on the paper, ghostly craftsmanship, stone breaking the sky.

The theme of Chen Hui's calligraphy and seal engraving exhibition is plum blossoms. From Fan Chengda's "Fancun Plum Spectrum" to Zhang Wei's "Plum Pin", as well as the numerous plum blossom poems of the Four Greats of the Southern Song Dynasty, the planting of plums, the appreciation of plums, the wing plums and a series of "plum blossom circle friends" that resulted from them constituted the flourishing plum blossom culture of the Southern Song Dynasty.

Chen Hui's seal engraving of "Mei Pin" has a total of thirty-eight squares, all of which are carved from half a centimeter to one centimeter of Qingtian Seal stone, the smallest of which is only four millimeters square. Someone commented, "Chen Hui's "Mei Pin Hua Yi Zhi" group printing is rich in strengths, melting and casting a furnace, and opening up a unique path, which is the wind bone of Qian Junkui, the master of the seal altar. In terms of expression, it is far from chasing the Qin and Han Jinshi winds, and the relics of the Anhui and Zhejiang families are close to the Anhui and Zhejiang families, and the faces are varied and interesting. ”

It is most appropriate to express such a rich plum blossom culture in the form of a group seal. This exhibition specially enlarges these small seals by a hundred times and prints them for visitors to enjoy, showing the big world in small square inches, which shows the depth of Chen Hui's skill.
