Ancient Imperial Examinations Are Taken by Name Text/Daniel Zhang

In ancient times, the imperial examination had to be hand-picked by the emperor, so it was directly related to the emperor's likes and dislikes. For example, if the name is good, it may take a big advantage; conversely, the eye can "fly" the shape of the hand.

Tang Ruizong Jingyun's three-year admission to the champion is often nameless, not because of his talent, but because his father gave him a good name. "It's very good, it's very good. The name can be named, very famous. Nameless, the beginning of heaven and earth; famous, the mother of all things", often nameless, this name comes from the first chapter of the important Taoist classic "Lao Tzu", in the era of believing in Taoism and respecting Laozi (the emperor of the Tang Dynasty was surnamed Li, the same surname as the Taoist ancestor Laozi, so he was a descendant of Laozi), this name was particularly flattering, and was suddenly favored by the emperor as a champion.

Ming Hongwu's eighteen-year-old title was supposed to be Hua Lun, but Zhu Yuanzhang said that he had a dream at night, and his surname was Ding, not Hua. The examiner immediately flipped through the examination papers and found out that Ding Xian, who was originally a student and had a lower rank. Zhu Yuanzhang said that the surname Ding mingxian should naturally be "manifested." Ding Xian, who had been hopeless, actually became a champion.

Ming Yongle twenty-two years of the temple examination, the original proposed first place is Sun Yuegong. When the chancellor presented the written list to Ming Chengzu Zhu Di for a look, Zhu Di looked at it and said, "No, no, no, how can Sun Hao be a champion?" "The ancients wrote straight, and the connection between Yue and Gong looked like a violent word. Finally, according to the emperor's wishes, the third place Xing Kuan dot was changed to a yuan. Why did Zhu Di taboo this violent word and promote wide characters? There are deep psychological factors to this. Because Zhu Di was the fourth son of Zhu Yuanzhang, the Ming Emperor, who was not qualified to be emperor, he used violent means to usurp the throne from his nephew Zhu Yunjiao, and once killed dissidents in order to exclude dissidents. Because he is afraid that others will say that he is cruel, he is particularly sensitive to the word violence. He tried to establish an image of generosity and benevolence in his later years, and Xing Kuan was given a bargain, and Sun Yuegong was demoted to Tanhua.

Emperor Ming Yingzong's fourth year of Tianshun was originally Qi Shun, and this name was linked to pray for obedience and filial piety, which is very much in line with the requirements of the monarchy for its subjects. Unfortunately, however, Qi Shun was similar to Emperor Yingzong's name Qi Zhen, so the title was replaced by Wang Yikui.

In the twelfth year of Shunzhi's temple examination, the title drafted by the chancellor was Wang Guiying of the Taicang people, and when he was roll called, Shunzhi remembered the widely circulated drama "Wang Kui Negative Guiying" because of the pronunciation of Wang Yi's name. So he joked, "Is it the negative king Quiyer?" At this point, Wang Yuke was very unlucky, and suddenly dropped from the first to the third. In the play "Wang Kui Negative Guiying", Wang Kui wins the title with the financial support of the prostitute Gui Ying, but is ungrateful and designs to kill Gui Ying.

In the fifty-fourth year of qianlong's palace examination, the Qianlong Emperor looked at the top ten scrolls, saw Hu Changling's name, and jokingly said: "Hu Ren is Changling? The Qianlong Emperor was 79 years old at this time and was looking forward to his long life, and Hu Changling's name was auspicious and ruyi, so he was appointed as a champion.

In the seventh year of Tongzhi's scientific expedition, Wang Guojun, a Jiangsu native, was initially designated as a first-class, but his name caused trouble for himself. In fact, the name Guojun is still good, but to read "Kingdom Jun" together is the harmonic sound of "Fallen Monarch". Therefore, when Empress Dowager Cixi, who was listening to the government, heard this name, she was very displeased. Wang Guojun was suppressed in the third rank.

Liu Chunlin was the last emperor in Chinese history, but his title and the first were accidental. In july 1904, the temple examination, the winner of the championship was originally The Guangdong Zhu Ruzhen, but Cixi remembered Zhenfei when she saw the word "Zhen", because Zhenfei supported the improvement of the Guangxu Emperor, so when she saw the word "Zhen" Empress Dowager Cixi, her liver went up; plus Zhu Ruzhen was a Guangdong person, which added fuel to Cixi's fire. Because the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Hong Xiuquan, the reformist Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao were all from Guangdong, in Cixi's view, the Cantonese were her nemesis and could not be tolerated, so she threw Zhu Ruzhen's examination paper aside. When Cixi opened Liu Chunlin's examination paper, her heart couldn't help but be happy, and the beautiful little characters on the scroll made Cixi's eyebrows stretch; at the end of the three words, "Liu Chunlin", she frequently nodded. Originally, this year's drought, Cixi thought of "Chunlin", that is, the spring wind and rain, and the general rain; coupled with Liu Chunlin's origin directly under Suning, she felt that this place name was in line with her wish for quiet and tranquility, so Liu Chunlin, who was actually the eye of the list, was named "a first-class head name", and the actual title Zhu Ruzhen became the eye of the list.
