Those who live in Greenland call themselves Kalalit or Greenlanders, those who live in Alaska call themselves Eskimo, Inupik or Yupick, and those who live in Siberia call themselves Uyth or Sirenik. The formerly used to be called Eskimo was used by Europeans and other peoples to refer to arctic dwellers. The name was once thought to mean "raw meat eater", although it is still unclear, but it generally refers to snowshoe. (Encyclopedia of China)
