An F-22 Raptor prepares for night flight training at Joint Base Langley Eustis, Virginia, on February 11, 2019.

F-22 Raptor night training is part of a regular flight training mission.
The aircraft is primarily designed as an air superiority fighter, but also has ground attack, electronic warfare, and signals intelligence capabilities. Major contractor Lockheed Martin built and finally assembled most of the F-22's fuselage and weapons systems, while Boeing provided the wings, rear, avionics integration and training systems
The aircraft was designated as F-22 and F/A-22 differently prior to its official commissioning as the F-22A in December 2005. After a long period of development and despite operational problems, the Air Force considered the F-22 critical to its tactical air power.
A final procurement quantity of 187 operational production aircraft was established in 2009, with the last F-22 delivered to the U.S. Air Force in 2012.
