The Shanghai Second Intermediate People's Court held that the defendant Chen Liwei fled after the accident, knowing that his behavior would cause serious consequences, still driving a motor vehicle at a high speed on the city road, changing lanes many times and rushing into red lights at intersections, seriously endangering public safety, causing many casualties and property losses, and his behavior has constituted the crime of endangering public safety by dangerous means. Accordingly, defendant Chen Liwei was sentenced to death for endangering public safety by dangerous means and deprived of his political rights for life.
