When I grew up a little, I knew that there was a hermit crab called coconut crab.
When the coconut crab was small, it also wanted to find shells to accommodate, and after two or three years, it threw away its borrowed shells and lived a free life naked.
When I grew up and began to contact creatures, I learned that the hermit crab even divided into sea hermit crabs and land hermit crabs.
The most "upright" hermit crab
Today I want to introduce to you a kind of hermit crab called the big light stone hermit crab Pylocheles macrops, which is distributed in Taiwan, Indonesia and the Philippines.
The province is only found in the northeast corner and in certain areas of Yilan with a sediment bottom 300 meters deep.
In terms of classification, the hermit crab belongs to the heterocogny, that is, in order to live in the shell of the snail, its body is deformed from the abdomen to the right [most of the snail is right].
However, this species of hermit crab is the most orthodox of all hermit crabs, with large claws on the left and right, head and thorax, and pectoral feet are symmetrically large, the abdomen is vertical, there are calcareous hard nails, and there are five pairs of abdominal limbs, and the color is bright red.

Hermit crabs that live in wood
So how do you live in a snail shell? It should be known that the reason why the hermit crab is called the hermit crab is that it is inevitable to make a home with the snail shell for life, and as the body grows, it is necessary to constantly change houses and move.
However, there are exceptions, that is, this species of large light stone hermit crab, it does not borrow the shell of the snail, but finds a wooden block that sinks into the seabed, and digs a circular hole with the large claw to live in it, without having to live with other species of hermit crab.
Sometimes in order to find no shell or even cannibalism, or to eat the snail meat to have a new shell available, it only needs to grow with its own body size, the hole can be dug deep, no need to change the new shell, there is a suitable home to live at any time.
Its reproduction
The reproduction of the hermit crab is the same as that of the general shrimp crab, and after the female crab is dehulled, the male crab shoots the sperm pod into the female crab's abdomen to fertilize the egg, and the female crab releases the fertilized egg, attaches it to the abdominal limbs, and after hatching, passes through the flea-like larvae and the big-eyed larvae.
Then it becomes a juvenile crab walking benthic crawl, and it becomes a hermit crab.

In the sea, due to the large number of snails in shallow sea areas, it is easy for hermit crabs to find shells, so the number of hermit crabs is relatively large, and the deep sea also makes there are fewer hermit crabs because of fewer snail shells.
However, the large light stone hermit crab introduced today, because its search is not a general snail shell, and can adjust its living space by itself, is not affected by the empty shell distribution of snails.
