On July 7, a Kazakh netizen shared a video of a seal being knocked unconscious by tourists at a beach in the town of Kurik on the east shore of the Caspian Sea so that children could take photos with it. The video shows a group of people attacking the seal with sticks and stones as it approached the shore, while others gathered to watch the brutal attack and did nothing to stop the violence. A similar incident was reported in Aktau City, where a group of tourists threw stones at a baby seal. The environmental department said the actions of the people in the video were outrageous and that seals were curious animals that often approached humans.
