Kunming, 29 Feb (Xinhua) -- A reporter learned from the Yunnan Provincial High People's Court on 29 February that the Kunming Intermediate People's Court yesterday upheld the original judgment in accordance with the law and sentenced Si Mou, the defendant in the illegal transportation of 146 Alexander parrots, a second-level protected animal of the state, to ten years' imprisonment and a fine of 30,000 yuan.

After trial, it was ascertained that on April 4, 2018, defendant Si drove to the port of Zhangfeng Town, Longchuan County, Dehong Dai Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture, received a batch of Alexander parrots, and then transported them to the cargo department of Tengchong Hump Airport, and used other people's ID cards to handle the consignment procedures, sending parrots from Tengchong to Chengdu via Kunming.

On April 8, 2018, the parrots were seized by the public security police at Kunming Changshui International Airport. After on-site inventory, a total of 146 parrots were consigned by the defendant Si.

After identification, they are all Alexander parrots, which are national second-level key protected animals, listed in the appendix of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), with a value of RMB 1,460,000.

On this basis, the court of first instance found defendant Si X guilty of illegally transporting precious and endangered wild animals and sentenced him to 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of 30,000 yuan. After the judgment was pronounced, defendant Si X filed an appeal; the Kunming Intermediate People's Court tried the case in the second instance and ruled to reject the appeal in accordance with law and uphold the original judgment.
