North Avenue with literary and artistic style Wen/Dahan

Reading the evening newspaper "Xi'an Geography" edition, see Mr. Binglin's "North Avenue, God Grin" article, so I read it in one breath. As mentioned in the article, when the author was ten years older than me, his various descriptions of the scene on North Avenue in that year appeared in front of my eyes one by one, which made people feel extremely intimate. In fact, when I was a child, my family lived on West Avenue, but because of my stubborn temperament, I like to walk around in the ancient city, and I was laughed at and scolded by my neighbor uncle as a "street rib", so I was also very familiar with North Avenue.

The Liang Ji Mash Shop mentioned in the article "North Street, God Grin" is indeed somewhat famous. But when I remember, it had become a public-private partnership Liang Kee sweet shop, and there was still a "Mash King" sign on the front of the door. The small bellows that made the crisp noise of the shop were long gone, but the taste of mash was still good. At that time, a bowl of "water mash" only cost seven cents, and the price of adding eggs could not be remembered. Coincidentally, in the early 1970s, one of my "little brothers" actually became an apprentice at Liang Kee's sweets shop and learned the craft of making mash. After a period of time, even on this basis, you can make a traditional flavor of yellow cinnamon thick wine. At that time, I had the convenience of sneaking into the mash room, which was strictly forbidden for outsiders to enter, and the brother opened the lid of the fermenting mash jar and scooped out a small bowl of crystal clear, wine-scented mash juice to entertain me for a drink. I have always been obsessed with the taste of mash, and I always made up all kinds of excuses to meet this "mash heir", and I always drank red-faced and stumbled back. Later, this little brother left Liang Ji's sweets shop for some reason, and I lost this blessing from then on.

Speaking of the Tongjifang building, it is even more memorable. At that time, this four-story building was the pride of North Avenue! The layout of the small street behind the building is very characteristic, and when I walked there as a child, I looked around and always had the feeling of being in another city. Opposite the building, there is Liu Hulan Food Store at the north exit of Erfu Street, and next door there is the Hongxia Department Store, which is a small business district in today's terms. Unfortunately, when north avenue was widened, the Tongjifang building was demolished, but fortunately, the small streets and alleys with a unique layout behind the building have been preserved.

In addition to the above memories, in my mind, North Avenue is still a very literary and artistic street. Entering the North City Gate, opposite the Sugar Mill Street Entrance is the Peace Cinema, which is designed in imitation of the Soviet architectural style and has the characteristics of the times. It was not only one of the few wide-screen cinemas in the city at that time, but also led the way, and staged the stereoscopic movie "The Magician's Adventure", which was quite sensational and became a street talk for a while. Further south, past Caojia Lane, on the west side of the road is the May Fourth Theater, and the four gilded characters on the door are handwritten by Mr. Mei Lanfang, which is particularly long spirit. Further south past the Xihua Gate, on the east side of the road stands the People's Theater, whose facilities were very luxurious in the 1950s and 1960s. The seats of the theater are divided into two sides: thin bamboo mats in summer and leather noodles in winter. Its lighting and sound are also exquisite, and many important performances at that time were met by the audience here. One of the ones I remember most is a concert by pianist Mr. Yin Chengzong, and even the aisles are temporarily filled with chairs. For that top piano concert, a ticket was two dollars, I was paid thirty-seven yuan at the time, and I was very troubled when I bought the ticket, so I remember it very clearly. From this, further south is the West Road, and not far from the turn is the famous Yi Folk Society. Yi Folk Society is a famous Qin Cavity Art Academy, which enjoys a high reputation in Shaanxi, Northwest China and even the whole country.

There are several large roads and small streets on both sides of North Avenue, such as Houzaimen, Xixin Street, Xiyi Road, etc. in the east; Sugar Fang Street, Caojia Lane, Qingnian Road, Xihuamen, etc. on the west side, each with its own story. For example, Qingnian Road, from the North Avenue into the not far to stop the garden, is a place with a lot of talk.

Due to the author's age limit, most of the things I recall are in the 1950s and 1960s. After going to middle school, I went to the mountains and went to the countryside to leave Xi'an, and when I returned to my homeland, the appearance of the old Xi'an's Shijing Street has undergone great changes, and the North Street is also among them, and the old appearance has changed its new look.
