Continue to enter the world of Japanese Sengoku!

I've been busy lately, so I'm sorry that the belated second part of Date Masamune has only met with you until now, but even if you don't accept this apology, you can't beat me, right... Without further ado, let's enter the world of the Warring States again!

Virgo trait five: maverick, smelly and beautiful

In 1593 (2nd year of Bunroku), a war was launched to invade Korea, at which time each daimyo sent soldiers to The Luo Concentration and were also ordered to send troops.

The people of Kyoto instinctively felt anxious and afraid of the large number of soldiers gathering, and only dared to quietly hide and watch, and when about 3,000 soldiers of the Date family passed by, the military uniforms and their luxurious splendor caused the Kyoto people to cheer like a tide. It's like seeing your idol...

A sea of people chasing stars

Therefore, for those who can dress up and like to wear gorgeous clothes, Japan has the name of "Date". But I think, could it be... Is it a visual department?

Date Masamune: The Chief Attacker is here, and he is not quick to surrender?

Virgo trait six

Calm, realistic, and will try to do what is good for themselves

On September 18, 1598, he died of illness. Japan is about to once again be in danger of war. Choosing the day of "9/18" is also very memorable!

Daimyo sengoku of Japan · Date Masamune "Part II"

In 1599, he married his eldest daughter, Goro Hachihime, to Rokuo, in flagrant violation of the original order prohibiting private intermarriage between daimyō and establishing an alliance of in-laws.

In 1600, when he gradually gained real power and launched a crusade, he took advantage of the fact that when the army left Kyoto, he united with the daimyōs of the western Japanese countries and elected him as the general and raised an army to fight.

At the same time, a written petition was issued against those who were already related by marriage, agreeing to seize by their own strength the 490,000-stone territories that had been reduced, and the current owners of these territories happened to be the same.

Autumn bean sacks...

Wasn't the territory in hand before? How did it become?

Again, this is a sad story. He died in 1595 at the age of 40. There are many theories about the cause of death, including speculation about being poisoned and so on.

Daimyo sengoku of Japan · Date Masamune "Part II"

Pusheng Clan Township: I died early, the rest depends on you, Bai sent you 490,000 stones!

Uesugi Keisatsu: I read a lot! I think I'm in a lot of trouble!

At the beginning, the evaluation was very high, not only gave him the family name "Toyotomi", but also gave him the word "show" in his own name, so it was originally called.

While chatting with the courtiers, he asked:

Daimyo sengoku of Japan · Date Masamune "Part II"

Toyotomi Hideyoshi: Ask a question!

"The Pusei clan led 100,000 troops, Oda Nobunaga led 5,000 troops, the two armies fought, who won?"

When everyone did not know how to answer, they said that they would win, on the grounds that the Kabumi army had killed more than 4,000 enemies, of which there must be none, and even if the Oda army had only 5 enemies, there must be some of them.

In this way, he is a fierce general who leads the way.

Me: Are you sure you're not a brainless fool?

However, after finally changing the name, refusing to use the word "show" again, and forcing his nephew to die, Xiaobian was not sure whether this crazy old man would do (poison) this kind of thing.

In short, after receiving this permission ("Million Stone のお Ink Pay き" Sendai City Museum), I was very happy, after all, after fighting it, I could make myself a veritable name of Million Stone Daimyo, and in order to obtain more territory, I reported the news of collusion with the Western Army, and incidentally obtained permission to invade the three places in the southern family territory of "Hega, Barnyard Guan, and Kwani". However, this incident has become the laughing stock of the "Date Black"...

Date Masamune vs Uesugi Keikatsu

In September 1600, the Battle of Sekigahara broke out, and although the Armageddon ended in just one day, He did not appear on the main battlefield of Sekigahara. And for the territory of 490,000 stones, it is indispensable.

(Is it because of the obsession that I have taken advantage of and dragged the Uesugi family down?) )

Daimyo sengoku of Japan · Date Masamune "Part II"

The Uesugi clan, which was subordinate to the Western Army (Toyotomi Fang), led troops to attack the domain of the Most Noble Family.

The beloved daughter of the lord of the mogami clan, Komahime, who was forced to die in the side room of his nephew, was executed consequentially, and the Mogami clan resolutely sided with the Eastern Army (Tokugawa Side) and vowed to die against the Toyotomi clan.

When the most noble family was clinging to Yamagata Castle, the good friend proposed a strategy:

Abandon the upper house and wait for the Uesugi army to attack Yamagata Castle, and then attack when you are tired.

And Date Masamune said: Mother () is still in the city, and she can't bear it.

He immediately ordered his uncle to lead 3,000 troops to help, and on September 25, he began to attack Yubara Castle in the territory of the Uesugi family.

In the end, the news of Sekigahara's victory reached Yamagata Castle, and he had no intention of fighting, but was defeated and led the remnants to flee back to Yonezawa.

In order to retake Date County and Nobuo County, and continue to advance south, but in the siege of Fukushima Castle, the battle with the city lord (60 years old), unable to attack for a long time, and the other side cut off the back road and cut off the grain road, and had to retreat in defeat. In 1601, unwilling to be defeated, he repeatedly sent troops, but all of them were completely defeated.

Daimyo sengoku of Japan · Date Masamune "Part II"

It seems that even if the god of war is not alive, it seems that he is not the opponent of the Uesugi family at all, if Kenshin Gong is not dead... hehe.

Until June 1601, only 20,000 stones of Karita County were taken back, which was a terrible record.

Due to the revelation of the instigation of an armed civilian uprising (Iwasaki Kazuyuki) in the southern territory, all the rewards requested were basically nullified, and in the end, only the enclaves totaling 20,000 stones (small territories that do not border their own borders) were rewarded in Omi Ande Andei and Tsunewa kingdoms, and the territory was fixed at 620,000 stones, ranking third in the country.

Virgo trait seven

Plan well for what you can control

Daimyo sengoku of Japan · Date Masamune "Part II"

In 1601, he refused a request for an increase in the bounty and shelved his promise to take back his territory.

Me: It's no wonder that I fought for half a day to get back 20,000 stones, and I really can't blame anyone else, and the Battle of Sekigahara was fought in one day, and Japan has almost no forces to compete with, so why encourage you to continue to fight and grab land to make yourself bigger?

Internal development

He chose to move to Sendai and build a castle here, so he was the original lord of sendai Domain.

At this time, he began to work hard to manage his own territory. Built on a mountain, Sendai Castle has a natural defensive ability, and is a rare Sengoku castle that combines a mountain castle (a castle built on a hill) + a castle built on a flat land.

It is said that the castle town (residential area) of Sendai Castle was very well developed, and the entire project was built by millions of people (times), and there were as many as 48 buildings where date masamune's courtiers lived.

(Me: In Japan, where the peasants and soldiers are separated, soldiers are professional soldiers or strong men who serve in the military.) Therefore, it is not simply that the township chiefs beat up such a simple thing, at least in ancient Chinese battles, slaves and civilians were the main body of the legion, if the pure use of peasants, Japan can also form a large army, but the combat effectiveness is worrying. )

Foreign exchanges

In the Age of Discovery in Europe, Spain and Portugal were the first to begin colonization, and in Asia, Spain gained a lot of benefits from colonial rule (Philippines, Manila), while Portugal used Macau as a stronghold in Asia.

Not to be outdone, countries such as the United Kingdom and the Netherlands have gradually expanded their territory to Asia and beyond. The diplomatic adviser next to him was a British (Japanese name).

In 1611, the King of Spain commissioned the former Governor-General of the Philippines to bring a handwritten letter, which, in addition to expressing the hope that Japan would allow the Spanish Church to spread Catholicism, also had a request for the colonization of Japan, which was unacceptable. The foreign adviser's words made him willing to communicate in an amicable manner.

This task was given to the lord of the third largest power in the country, the 620,000-stone Daimyo (the first and second were the Maeda family and the Shimazu family, respectively).

In 1613 (the 18th year of Keimō), more than 180 of his appointed courtiers set out for Europe on a Spanish galleon built with the help of Spanish Christian missionaries.

Daimyo sengoku of Japan · Date Masamune "Part II"

galleon

On October 28, 1613, the mission set out across the Pacific Ocean to New Spain (present-day Mexico), then across the Atlantic Ocean to Madrid, the capital of Spain, and into the Mediterranean Sea to Rome to meet the Pope. It became the first Japanese in history to straddle two oceans.

Editor's Note:

It is said that in addition to hoping for ocean trade with Spain, it is also intended to make a military alliance with Spain in preparation for future confrontation with the Tokugawa shogunate.

Although the Spanish side's plan was to rely on the power of mission, and preferred to promote the colonization of Japan, so everyone actually had their own plans for this operation.

However, after the envoys returned home from their journey, Japan had begun to ban the proselytizing activities of European missionaries, and at this time, it was very "time-conscious" to stop any diplomatic behavior.

In any case, Keicho's dispatch of envoys to Europe has been marked as a major diplomatic event in Japanese history.

In 1614, the Osaka Winter Front

After his death, he became a powerful person, which greatly shook the foundation of the Toyotomi family, and the Battle of Sekigahara in order to protect the Toyotomi family also ended in failure.

After the Battle of Sekigahara, the Toyotomi clan's territory was reduced by 650,000 stones (Settsu, Hanoi, and Izumi), and its strength was greatly weakened. In 1603, he was appointed As the Shogun of the Shogunate and opened the shogunate in Edo to carry out political affairs.

At this time, the Toyotomi family became a special existence, theoretically a subject of the Toyotomi family, but the official position was higher than that of the Toyotomi family, and the political status was higher than that of the Toyotomi family.

The political orders of the Toyotomi family not to obey at all made it possible to formally clean up the Toyotomi family.

Map of the Osaka Higashi Nobu Formation

The Toyotomi family mobilized 100,000 people in the Osaka Winter Front, and the Tokugawa family gathered about 200,000 troops;

The war ended with peace talks proposed by the Toyotomi side, for the reason... felt

- The war is too lengthy

- Osaka Castle is also too strong

- Soldier food is eaten too quickly

In addition to sending people to curse battles every day, only orders artillery bombarded the city.

A shell accidentally fell into Honmaru, killing several handmaidens, and the hostess of the Toyotomi family (Yodohime) said that it would be better to negotiate peace.

- Osaka Castle left only Honmaru (main castle);

- Demolition of Nino maru and Mino maru (Bing Station Castle Tower);

- Filling in the moat outside Osaka Castle;

- Sent to Edo as a hostage;

- Guarantee the existing territorial integrity of the Toyotomi family;

- The people and soldiers in the city are not held accountable;

However, according to past customs, the cutting of the city (the destruction of the city) was mainly a ceremonial act:

Fill in part of the moat

Destroy a corner of the outer wall

This time, the Tokugawa family was very thorough, filling in not only the outer moat, but also the inner moat (historical records record that Edo also repeatedly inquired about the progress of the project, which was obviously intentional).

Also as a daimyo who participated in the war, he sided with one side.

During this war, Date Masamune was mainly involved in the post-war effort to fill the moat, and after the war was rewarded by the great general Tokugawa Hidetada (Ieyasu had given way to his son) the domain of Iyo Kuniyu and Gun.

Date Masamune: Can there be a greater dream than to get something for nothing?

Next up is the major historical event of the collective climax of the Date Blacks, the Osaka Summer Array!

After the Osaka Winter Front, General Tokugawa did not stop casting artillery and continued to prepare for battle.

After the end of the Osaka Winter Front, some of the Ronin people of the Toyotomi family, believing that the Toyotomi family had no will to fight, left Osaka with their weapons and then made trouble in the Kyoto area, for which the Tokugawa family proposed that the Toyotomi family should dismiss all ronin and accept the transfer of territory.

The Toyotomi family took it for granted... Declined.

On April 6, 1615, the Tokugawa clan issued an order for the daimyō to assemble, and a month later, the Tokugawa army issued a military order for soldiers to carry rations for three days to prepare for the expedition.

On May 6, 1615, in order to counter the Tokugawa shogunate army (35,000 men) coming to Osaka from Yamato Road (a road in the direction of Yamato), the vanguard of the Toyotomi Army was led by (2,800), follow-up troops, (3,600), (12,000).

Daimyo sengoku of Japan · Date Masamune "Part II"

The first mission was to attack the shogunate army at Kokubun Village, but the scouts came to report that the shogunate army had occupied Kokubun Village, so they could only use the second plan to attack at Komatsuyama.

Faced with a shogunate army 10 times its own, it fought bravely and was killed in the battle, and the subsequent troops delayed the departure time due to heavy fog, resulting in the team fighting alone, and was later attacked by the musket team of the family and killed.

Note: Another theory is that he was seriously injured and committed suicide by cutting his abdomen. There is also a saying that there is no death, but the battlefield is detached, but the editor feels that it is not very reliable.

When the follow-up troops arrived, the 3,600 people with them also threw themselves into battle and were killed in the battle.

Eventually, the main force of 12,000 people arrived on the battlefield, blocking the attack of the shogunate army and forcing the sheriff's troops to retreat.

At this time, he repeatedly asked for instructions and applied for another assault, but all of them were rejected, on the grounds that after many battles, the fatigue of soldiers, the increase in wounded, the lack of ammunition replenishment, and so on...

In the end, he was overwhelmed and personally ran to the position to tell him the above reasons.

However, the defeat of the rest of the Battle of Osaka Castle led to the need to withdraw, and due to the order to forbid the pursuit, he was able to return to Osaka Castle leisurely, leaving behind the famous taunt:

Sanada Yukimura: The Kanto samurai are known as millions, and there is no one who can be called a man!

Date Masamune Black History

There are historical records that his men actually took advantage of the chaos to attack the soldiers of their own vanguard Mizuno Katsunari, snatched three war horses, and led his men to ambush near the murderer, taking the opportunity to kill the murderer and snatch the horse back... There is no objection to this (is this the default reasoning?). )。

In the process of fighting with the team, they completely destroyed their own side in the vanguard unit, the Kamho Shomo team, a total of 300 people.

He died on the spot, and his widow, through it, protested to himself and the shogunate, and said bluntly in the face of this matter:

"Akashi's team and Kamiho's team have completely collapsed, and they had to do this in order to avoid their formation being scattered, and the Ida family's tactic is to divide the enemy from me."

Itachi Keizumi: I guarantee with my life that what he said is true... And the story is sad...

However, there is no record in history that this matter was dealt with, and the military records only record the death of the fighting force, and it seems that the shogunate will not offend the third largest name of the Japanese power for this small banner.

After the war, the shogunate did not give it directly, but gave it 100,000 stone territory to Iyo.

Shigeru Kambo (Kirin of the Kinho family)

He once bravely captured the Uesugi family banner "Chaos Dragon Banner" at the Battle of Sekigahara, and was awarded 1,000 stones after the war;

In the Battle of Osaka, which had fought heroically, it snatched the Mayin "Senari Scoop" that had been used in the toyotomi Hideyoshi era, and dealt a major blow to the enemy.

Sensei scoop is a horse print, gourd shape. Used to indicate the position of the general, deterrence of the enemy and other effects, it is said that every time the battle is won, a small gourd is inserted on it, and finally the full insert is called "Thousands of Scoops".

The historical Osaka Summer Front, as a result, I believe everyone knows that the toyotomi clan perished, there was no great war in the world, and the Edo shogunate in Tokugawa created a 300-year era of peace.

In his later years, Date Masamune

After the Osaka Summer Front, the world was at peace, there was no great war, and he worked hard to build his own territory, develop, plant, and build water conservancy, and the surface stone of the Sendai Domain he operated was 620,000 stones high, but the actual stone height had reached 750,000 stones (Kuanei Inspection Land), which not only became the granary of Japan at that time, until now Sendai's specialty is also rice. By the 18th century, the actual output of the Sendai Domain exceeded 1 million stones.

Actively hired senior technicians to come to Oshu, leaving behind many of the current national treasure-level buildings, such as Osaki HachimanGu Shrine, Ruiyan Temple, etc.

Daimyo sengoku of Japan · Date Masamune "Part II"

Engineers from Omi Kingdom (near Kyoto), where they lived at the time, were hired to design and build the Ishinomaki Port, where grain transported by water could be transported directly by sea to Edo and beyond, and at its peak, one-third of Edo's rice came from Sendai.

Not only did he serve, but he also held important positions during the period of the second and third generations of generals, and was a veritable minister of the three dynasties.

In 1635, three generations of shoguns promulgated a system of replacement of attendants, which simply put, every other year the daimyo of various places had to come to Edo for one year, and when they were not working in Edo, they needed to let their main chamber or future heirs stay in Edo as hostages. Other relatives do not qualify for this substitution.

Not only did the state not reimburse travel expenses, but all personnel in Edo were responsible for the food, clothing, housing, and transportation of the daimyō himself, which increased the financial expenses of the daimyō and used it to limit the improvement of the daimyō's own strength in various places, while taking into account the effect of hostages, essentially laying the foundation for the stable rule of the Tokugawa shogunate.

When the policy was promulgated, it immediately stated:

Daimyo sengoku of Japan · Date Masamune "Part II"

Date Masamune: If someone disobeys this order, I hope that the task of crusading against him will be entrusted to my Date Masamune to carry out.

This allowed the attendance system to be smoothly implemented without encountering any backlash, and 10 muskets were also allocated to those who were worried about their personal safety, so as not to be killed by people with grudges when they went out, because his remarks, really... It's so unpleasant.

However, speaking of it, Date Masamune belongs to standing and talking without waist pain...

Because on April 20, 1636, when he left for Edo to work, his condition began to deteriorate, in fact, since 2 years ago, his health was not very good, his appetite was very poor, and he had difficulty swallowing food, and he had been malnourished since then.

During the business trip, he was unable to eat or even vomit, and by the time he arrived in Edo on April 28, he was on hunger strike and his abdomen was edematous.

On May 21, the general himself went to the official residence to visit the sick. After the visit, he had no strength to move, and he relied on crutches to rest many times before he was able to return to the inner room.

At 6:00 a.m. on May 24, 1636, just the previous year, he claimed to help punish the death of those who disobeyed orders, and the cause of death was presumed to be esophageal cancer and cancerous peritonitis.

This man, known as "Date Man", did not let his wife see his image before he died.

On May 26, the eldest son was officially approved by the shogunate to inherit the status of lord of the Date family and inherit the ownership of all the existing territories. The shogunate also ordered that everyone in Edo serve funerals for 7 consecutive days and Kyoto for 3 consecutive days.

Death sentence

Death sentence:

The moon of the heart which does not cloud is put ahead and it shines on the darkness of the ukiyo world.

Roughly speaking, it means:

The bright moon in my heart dispelled the clouds, and the darkness of the floating world had disappeared

It is said that when he was young, he was taught by his teacher to never lie down in front of outsiders, and this death sentence is said to be recited in a sitting position.

Xiao Bian believes that this sentence is full of unwillingness, expressing the ambition and talent of the people in the world, but when adulthood has reached the end of the Warring States period, the darkest era under the world is about to pass.

Soon the teenager will pass

During the Hideyoshi era, Yoshino's level of harmony was displayed, and his Han poetry talent was highly praised in Sima Liaotaro's novels, comparable to China's Cao Cao.

Immediately after the teenager, Shi Ping had more white hair. How is the displeasure of the remnants of the body forgiven?

The poem is a work of later years, but the meaning of the expression has a very different interpretation:

Note 1:

When I was a teenager, I fought on horses, such as today's Taiping white hair is getting more and more, and now I am still alive to give face to God, how can I not indulge in fun?

In his later years, about 30,000 stones were spent on "Noh drama" (a traditional Japanese drama genre), which means that 1/20 of the total income of the territory was spent in the whole year.

Note 2:

When I was a teenager, I fought on horses, such as today's Taiping white hair is getting more and more, and now I am still alive to give face to God, but I can't feel happy, why?

After all, the most famous slogan is if I was born twenty years earlier...

After the establishment of the Sendai Domain, the main city of Sendai Castle was a mountain castle, and he had imagined that if there was a confrontation with the shogunate army, the strategy of battle was called "Sendai Imperial Domain" (仙台御陣の御触に付御内試)", and it can be said that he did not give up his intention to compete for the world.

In the end, the world was too peaceful, sendai Castle had to become a peaceful city to adapt to peacetime, and it is estimated that it will not be very happy to give up the wishes and goals of life.

One-Eyed Dragon Masamune

First of all, we must make it clear that no one has ever called him by this name while he was alive, because it first appeared in the writings of historians and poets of the late Edo period, and for the first time used to refer to "one-eyed dragon".

A model of the Chronicle of History (12 Honki, 10 Tables, 8 Books, 30 Dynasties, 70 Chronicles), and the Writing of the History of Japan (3 Chronicles, 5 Books, 9 Discussions, 13 Family, 23 Strategies);

And the first recorded owner of the name "Cyclops" was.

The secret of the blindfold

In fact, it is very taboo for others to say that he has a disability of his eyes, and he will not take the initiative to make such an obvious way to highlight, in fact, the left eye is blind, the eyeball is white, but it does not affect the blinking.

There have been records of wanting to blacken the left eye in his portrait. Haiku performers from the Showa period in Japan cover their left eye when performing.

Daimyo sengoku of Japan · Date Masamune "Part II"

The famous knife eyeband, which is the image in the 1942 movie "One-Eyed Dragon Masamune", is said to have an arrow wound to the left eye, wrapped in white cloth and made an eyeband with the knife part of the Japanese sword... The editor said that this is not historical at all, but the image is accepted by the general audience is also drunk.

Galleon (GALLEON)

A sailing style in Europe from the 16th to the 18th century.

The Portuguese first built galleons, while the Spaniards built galleons in large quantities, with their towering bows and sterns, with a great sense of oppression, which could be used both as merchant ships and for naval warfare.

Daimyo sengoku of Japan · Date Masamune "Part II"

How many people understand this full of memories?

With the help of the missionaries, he built one and made him the first man in Japan to cross two oceans!

Relationship with the second-generation shogun Tokugawa Hidetada

In 1628, after entertaining the second shogun in Sendai, Masamune personally brought the meal to him

"Lord Date, try it first (you try the poison first)!"

Furious, he replied angrily:

"WaiJi (Masashige) Lord, don't want to slander me in this way, a man like my Masamune, it is unimaginable to use such means as poisoning, even if I (want to rebel) 10 years ago, I will not use this method, the Japanese gods are named, never dreamed of such a thing!" Do you mean to duel me when you say that? ”

(Editor's note: 10 years ago refers to 1618, Masamune had plans to rebel, although in the end did not succeed, but Masamune also planned to do the real sword and gun at that time. )

Hearing the above conversation behind the curtain, weeping and saying , " Itachi 's father ( さすがは Ida の本父殿よ ) " ...

In his later years, he called him to his residence and asked him if he wanted to give him the knife he often wore, and replied:

"It is the duty of a subordinate to give gifts to the lord and prince, but His Highness and a child reach out to ask for it, don't you think it will be a great harm to the taste of the general's family?"

So I was very touched, and then I refused the request, which was really... It's so unpleasant...

Relationship with the three-generation shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu

The three generations of generals respected their grandfather as a god, and even more respected the famous generals who were still alive, and the famous generals of the same era as their grandfather were one of them, and Jiaguang was obviously superior to him in the treatment of him, after all, it was Date's father.

Let's use a purple harness that can only be used if you are a Kyoto Imperial Family;

Is... It's so unpleasant.
