  Born on April 16, 1967 in Tiantai County, Zhejiang Province, Yu Bin learned chess at the age of 7, entered sports school at the age of 11, and entered the training team at the age of 12. After winning the LG Cup in 2000, Yu Bin reached the LG Cup final again in 2005, but lost to Zhang Xu and eventually won the silver medal. In 2007, Yu Bin became the coach of the Chinese women's Go team. On January 14, 2009, Yu Bin succeeded Ma Xiaochun as the head coach of the Chinese national Go team, and has been in office for 11 years.
