Chen Zhen, a nurse mentioned in the "Diary of Dr. Cha Aiding E", tells about the Wuhan years: Aiding E, let me re-examine the nursing profession

At 2:00 p.m. on May 12, 2020, a press conference was held in Shanghai, where Chen Zhen, head nurse of the intensive care unit of Huadong Hospital, talked about the years of support in Wuhan. Chen Zhen was one of the first members of the Shanghai medical team to rush to Wuhan, and she was specifically mentioned in the "Diary of Dr. Cha Aiding Hubei", and at the scene of the press conference, she said bluntly, "The experience of aiding Hubei has allowed me to re-examine the profession of nurse myself." ”

Chen Zhen, a nurse mentioned in the "Diary of Dr. Cha Aiding E", tells about the Wuhan years: Aiding E, let me re-examine the nursing profession

Chen Zhen and her colleagues arrived in Wuhan at 2:00 a.m., and they were the first medical teams in Shanghai to aid Hubei and the first medical team in the country to arrive in Wuhan. The 93 nurses on her team come from more than 50 hospitals in Shanghai, but most of them have no experience in the care of severe infectious diseases. Before arriving in Wuhan, the local medical staff had been overloaded for nearly a month, and the next day when the training was completed, they took over the two wards of Jinyintan Hospital. The north third ward where Chen Zhen is located is a simple reconstructed intensive care unit, and all the patients admitted are critically ill patients. Of the 30 patients, 20 were ventilators, and the rest required high-flow oxygen.

At first, the allocation of nursing power was insufficient, and nurses had to work longer hours. A few hours before work, I began to eat or drink, it was winter, and the infectious disease room had to be opened for ventilation, so it was very cold, and everyone's hands were frozen. Wearing masks and goggles for a long time also makes each medical staff's face have different degrees of bruises. There were no workers at the time, so in addition to completing treatment and nursing work, nurses also needed to carry oxygen cylinders, disinfect the environment, clean up garbage, and even clean toilets and dredge sewers. So the test of physical perseverance is very big.

In Chen Zhen's team, less than one-third have experience in intensive care, and according to this situation, nurses are divided into 9 teams according to their strengths and seniority, ensuring that each nursing team can complete the nursing work of critically ill patients with high quality.

On the day mentioned in the "Diary of Dr. Cha Aid", Chen Zhen and her colleagues were rescuing a critically ill patient. This is done by Professor Zhou Xin for patients to perform bronchoscopic alveolar lavage. For critically ill patients, all treatments are a race against the clock. Lack of oxygen for a long time can cause irreparable damage. Because Chen Zhen has 18 years of experience in intensive care and has cooperated with several professors to rescue many patients, she is very familiar with the whole process and the doctor's operating habits. She concluded, "Although nursing work is hard, wronged and dangerous, it is great and worthwhile." If you want to do this job well, you need solid professional knowledge and skills, and you need a kind heart that is willing to help others. I am proud to be a nurse. ”
