Kunming, 24 Dec (Xinhua) -- The Jiangchuan Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is located in the south of Jiangchuan City, Yuxi City, Yunnan Province. The cemetery is solemn and green. Along the ladder, a monument engraved with the words "Revolutionary Martyrs Are Immortal" stands tall, and on the left side of the monument is the tomb of tang Huaiyuan, a famous anti-Japanese general.

Tang Huaiyuan, character Fo Chuan. Born in 1886, a native of Jiangchuan, Yunnan. In 1911, he graduated from the Yunnan Army Lecture Hall and joined the Yunnan Army. He successively served as a platoon leader and a company commander. In 1930, he was appointed deputy commander of the 12th Division and brigade commander of the 35th Brigade. In 1932, he was appointed commander of the 12th Division. In October 1936, he was appointed deputy commander of the 3rd Army.

After the outbreak of the Nationwide War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in 1937, Tang Huaiyuan was ordered to go north and fight against the Japanese army in the western Hebei region and the eastern and southern Jin. He was promoted to commander of the 3rd Army in the fall of 1937. In 1938, he was ordered to lead his troops to the Battle of Zhongtiao Mountain in southern Jin. In May 1941, the Japanese army mobilized more than 100,000 troops and attacked Zhongtiao Mountain in three ways. Tang Huaiyuan's troops were surrounded by Japanese troops near the village of Wenyu. Tang Huaiyuan led the officers and men to repeatedly charge and kill and strive to break through. In the end, because of the enemy on all sides, the bullets were exhausted, and the officers and men of the unit suffered casualties.

When he was in a desperate situation, Tang Huaiyuan wrote a suicide note: "Yu was entrusted with the heavy responsibility of the three armies by the favor of the state, and today's soldiers have suffered casualties, the environment is dangerous, and the two parts of the General Army have lost contact." After Yu's death, The commander-in-chief and chief of staff of Wangyu cleaned up the mess of their own army and continued to resist the war. ”

On May 12, in order not to be captured by the Japanese army, Tang Huaiyuan raised his gun and killed himself, and was martyred. He was 55 years old. In 1942, he was posthumously awarded the title of General of the Army by the Nationalist Government.

"The land has not lost its heroes, and the blue blood has stained the middle article for thousands of years" "Resisting foreign insults and heroic ambitions to martyr the country before being rewarded, killing the loyal soul of Cheng Ren Yongzhen Zhongtiao Mountain", after Tang Huaiyuan generously martyred the country, these alliances fully expressed the mourning and admiration of the people at that time for him.

On January 4, 1942, in order to mourn the fallen soldiers of the Battle of Tang Huaiyuan and Zhongtiao Mountain, the then Yunnan Daily published an editorial entitled "Mourning the Loyal Souls". The editorial said: "Looking back at the history of the war in the past five years, how many people can hold out for four years such as Nakajō Yamayuki? How many people can defeat the enemy's front repeatedly under the conditions of inferior equipment, lack of food, and lack of ammunition, and carry out counter-sweeping several times without success? How many high-ranking generals can lead the way, but how many people can kill and become benevolent? ...... The death of generals and others is indeed a supreme loss to the country. The general is the backbone of the country and the pillar of the War of Resistance. The loss of this pillar by the country and the loss of this pillar in the War of Resistance will increase the difficulties of the War of Resistance against Japan, and by adding to the obstacles of war, it will be even more difficult for us to cherish our talents for the country, and it will be even more difficult to stop crying! ”

In 1990, Tang Huaiyuan's ashes were moved from Shanxi to the Jiangchuan Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery. The tomb of Tang Huaiyuan is cone-shaped, inlaid with cement bluestone, and the tombstone is marble, and the tombstone is engraved "Tomb of Tang Huaiyuan, General of the Anti-Japanese Heroic Army". Next to the tomb, there is a plaque of Tang Huaiyuan's life deeds, which records his life as a horseman, and one of the passages does not move the viewer: "(He) once boldly said, 'China only has military division commanders who have died in battle, and there are no captured military division commanders, so don't let the Third Army start its end.'" Now, more than 20,000 people come here every year to receive patriotic education and commemorate this heroic anti-Japanese martyr who swore to die and coexist with Mount Zhongtiao in various ways.
