According to the indictment, in February 1984, Xiaoling fell in love with another man, and Guo Shangren was dissatisfied when he learned of it, and repeatedly said threatening words to his friends. Guo Lina is the child who has the most hopes from her father, she publishes articles on her father's case on Weibo, sends electronic letters to the judicial department, and tries to send private messages to lawyers on Weibo.
In July 2020, lawyers Li Xianfeng and Wang Fei of Beijing Zebo Law Firm replied to her one after another, willing to jointly provide legal aid to Guo Shangren.
Lawyers Wang Fei and Li Xianfeng said that Guo Shangren has been released on guarantee pending further investigation for 12 years, and after the release on guarantee pending further investigation, the procuratorate has not made a decision to prosecute, has not withdrawn the case, and according to relevant laws, it should be handled in accordance with the innocent case, which meets the conditions for applying for state compensation in the judicial interpretation. On April 12, 2021, Guo Shangren formally submitted an "Application for State Compensation" to the Longnan Intermediate Court, which showed that in addition to asking the relevant departments to apologize, he also proposed a total of more than 11.44 million yuan in state compensation, including compensation for infringement of personal freedom, consolation payments for mental damage, and costs of rights protection, but the case filing court refused to accept the materials and refused to file the case.
In June 2021, Guo Shangren and his lawyer submitted a "Criminal State Compensation Appeal" to the Supreme People's Court, requesting that the compensation obligated organ be ordered to apologize, eliminate the impact, restore his reputation, and pay a total of more than 12 million yuan in compensation for infringement of personal freedom, consolation money for mental damage, and costs of safeguarding rights. It is understood that the receiving judge accepted the appeal materials, and since then, the lawyer has received a call from the staff of the Supreme Court to verify the situation.
In August 2021, two lawyers, Wang Fei and Li Xianfeng, went to the Huixian Public Security Bureau to request the review and reproduction of Guo Shangren's file materials, but the bureau did not cooperate, and the lawyer contacted the Longnan Municipal Procuratorate, the Longnan Municipal Public Security Bureau, and the Longnan Municipal Law Commission to request coordination to solve the problem of reading the case file and protect the lawyer's most basic litigation rights.
