（75）The Peasant and the
Apple-Tree
A peasant had an apple-tree in his garden, but the tree had no apples on it. Instead, a lot of sparrows and grasshoppers made the tree their home . In this case , the peasant decided to cut it down.He took his axe in his hand and made a cut at its roots. The grasshoppers and sparrows begged him not to cut down the tree, because it was their house. If the peasant spared the tree,they would sing to him for his amusement . The peasant paid no attention to their request ,but gave the tree a second and a third blow with his axe. When he reached the hollow of the tree, he found a hive full of honey. He tasted the honey, and then threw down his axe. Since then on , he looked after the tree with great care and never hurt it.
Some men can only be moved by interest .
農夫與蘋果樹
一個農夫的園子裡有一棵蘋果樹，但是這棵樹上不結蘋果，倒是有許多麻雀和蚱蜢在樹上安了家。既然如此，農夫就想把樹砍倒。他手裡拿着斧子，對着樹根砍了一下。蚱蜢和麻雀們懇求他不要把樹砍倒，因為這是他們的家。如果農夫饒過這棵樹，他們會唱歌給他聽，讓他解乏。農夫并不關心他們的請求，用斧子又在樹上砍了第二下、第三下。當他砍到樹上的窟窿時，他發現了一個滿是蜂蜜的蜂房。他嘗了一下蜂蜜，就把斧子給扔下了。從那以後，他精心護理着這棵樹，再也沒有傷害它。
有些人隻能被利益打動。
