回顧最近幾年，雲計算無疑已經成為一個十分熱門的話題。雲計算廠商也可謂是星羅棋布，不光是國外的亞馬遜、谷歌、IBM、微軟、甲骨文、思科、 惠普、Salesforce、VMware等大型企業，還包括國内的阿裡巴巴、中移動、浪潮企業等也加入到了這個競技場。是以從微軟的Azure平台到 Google App Engine、Amazon Web Service 、Salesforce的Force.com雲計算平台到IBM“藍雲”解決方案、Oracle Enterprise Manager再到VMware vSphere，無需置疑，由于縮減了相關軟硬體的購買和管理，進而可以控制成本支出，降低複雜性。随着雲計算的不斷發展，越來越多的廠商及其企業客戶開 始在雲中設計、開發、測試、部署或托管應用。
“三屏一雲”戰略最早由微軟正式提出：三屏即電腦顯示屏、手機螢幕和電視螢幕，“一雲”則指雲計算。随着雲計算的不斷發展和市場的急劇擴大，“三屏一雲”已經成了各個企業争鬥的主要戰場（近幾年手機市場和雲計算應用方面尤其突出）！

微軟“三屏一雲”戰略
雲計算主要表現在三個發展趨勢，這也是現在雲計算的三大特點：
軟體即服務（SaaS——Software as a Service）一種軟體配置設定模式，使應用程式由供應商或服務供應商托管起來，并通過網絡提供給使用者。
平台即服務（PaaS——Platform as a Service）一種平台配置設定模式，通過網絡提供作業系統和相關服務，這樣客戶就無需下載下傳或安裝。
基礎設施即服務（IaaS——Infrastructure as a Service）一種基礎設施配置設定模式，把這些基礎設施通過外包的形式提供出來，其中包括存儲、硬體裝置、伺服器和網絡元件等。
公有雲：是指為其他雲廠商提供服務的雲服務，它所有的服務是供他人使用，而不是自己用。比如微軟的 Windows Azure Platform、Google App Engine、亞馬遜雲服務、Salesforce等。對于使用者而言，公共雲的最大優點是，其所應用的程式、服務及相關資料都存放在公共雲的提供者處， 自己無需做相應的投資和建設。缺點就是，由于資料不存儲在自己的資料中心，其安全性存在一定風險。同時，公共雲的可用性不受使用者控制，這方面也存在一定 的不确定性。
私有雲：是指企業自身建構并使用的雲，它所有的服務不是供其他企業使用，而是供本企業及其下屬分支企業使用。 私有雲的部署比較适合于有衆多分支機構的大型企業或政府部門。随着這些大型企業資料中心的集中化，私有雲将會成為他們部署IT系統的主流模式。相對于公共 雲，私有雲部署在企業自身内部，是以其資料安全性、系統可用性都可由自己控制。但其缺點是投資較大，尤其是一次性的建設投資較大。
混合雲：是指供企業本身和客戶共同使用的雲，它所提供的服務既可以供企業本身使用，也可以供别人使用。是以相對公有雲和私有雲而言，混合雲的部署方式對雲提供者的要求較高。混合雲是除了公有雲和私有雲之外的另一種解決方案。
VMware vSphere Standard 提供基本的應用程式整合，在削減硬體成本的基礎上也提高了部署的效率; VMware vSphere Advanced 提供應用程式更高的可用性和穩定性; VMware vSphere Enterprise 企業版最大的優點就是比較穩定和安全，能最大限度減少當機并保護資料，進而實作資源管理的自動化; VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus 能将IT基礎架構轉變成靈活、可伸縮性的服務，這樣企業在做架構的時候有很大的擴充和靈活性。

應用程式層次：支援現有應用程式的遷移和全新的應用程式的搭建，是以就不必考慮新舊應用程式的處理問題。
VMware VCenter套件：使雲計算的使用形式更加靈活，可以使用VMware VCenter套件建構自己的雲計算架構以及資料中心。
應用程式服務層次：無論是何種應用程式類型或作業系統，這些元件都将為運作于雲作業系統平台上的所有應用程式提供内置的服務級别控制。
基礎架構服務層次： 這些元件可全面虛拟化伺服器、儲存設備和網絡資源，聚合這些資源，并基于業務優先級将資源準确地按需配置設定給應用程式。
雲的使用形式：可以實作内部雲計算和外部雲計算，這樣就可以讓企業有更多的選擇，同時也增加了企業的主動權和可控性。
VMware的vSphere和其他雲計算産品一樣（雲計算産品的共性），可以幫助企業快速建構雲計算架構，而且針對公有雲計算和私有雲計算， 都有相應的解決方案。 同時VMware在虛拟化技術方面有着比較成熟的解決方案和處理經驗，是以在這個層次上，它比其他雲計算産品有着不可替代的優勢。
