在我們的觀念裡，好像有一條文法規則：含有if的主從句要遵循“主将從現”原則，怎麼又說：if X will do 用法其實很普遍呢？
首先，一般情況下，在時間狀語從句或條件狀語從句（if、when\before\as\while\after\till\until\ unless\as long as\ in case\if only\provided that等）中，謂語動詞用一般現在時表示進來時間，主句相應地用将來時态。可以說粗略地說成“主将從現”原則。如：
I will go out for a walk if it doesn’t rain tomorrow .
如果明天不下雨,我就去散步.（時間狀語從句）
I will tell you as soon as Tom finishes his work.
湯姆一做完工作我就告訴你。（時間狀語從句）
I’ll show you around the city if I am free tomorrow .
如果明天我有空的話就帶你到處看看. （條件狀語從句）
但是，當will作“願意”的意思時或表示禮貌的請求時，是可以用在條件狀語從句裡，請看：
If you will allow me ,I will see you home.

If you won’t help us, all our plans will ruined.
如果你不願意幫助我們，那我們的一切計劃都會泡湯的。
If you’ll help me, we can finish early.如果你願意幫助我，我們可以早點幹完。
If he will pay, I’ll go with him.
如果他願意付錢，我就和他一起去。
If he’ll come tomorrow , I’ll tell him about it.
如果明天他願意來，我就把這件事告訴他。
If you will wait a moment , I’ll see if Mr. Jones is free.
請等一會兒，我去看看瓊斯先生是否有空。
If you will undertake the affair, I shall be very grateful.

上述有些例句如果硬是要去掉will,用一般現在時，句子也能說的通，但是就失去了意願的意味或請求的意味。
