Adobe Flash Player是一個跨平台、基于浏覽器的應用程式。運作時，它可以跨螢幕和浏覽器原汁原味地檢視具有表現力的應用程式、内容和視訊。Flash Player實作了移動螢幕上的高性能優化，設計為充分利用本機裝置能力，進而實作更豐富、更引人入勝的使用者體驗。

Adobe Flash Player 16.0 兩大新功能：

1、Windows/Mac PPAPI安裝程式

PPAPI也就是Pepper Plugin API，是在原有網景NPAPI(Netscape Plugin API)基礎上發展而來的。

NPAPI是當今最流行的插件架構，幾乎所有浏覽器都支援，不過存在很大的安全隐患，插件可以竊取系統底層權限，發起惡意攻擊。

2010年，Google開發了新的PPAPI，将外挂插件全部放到沙盒裡運作，2012年Windows、Mac版本的Chrome浏覽器先後更新了PPAPI Flash Player，并希望今年底值錢徹底淘汰NPAPI。

現在，所有使用PPAPI接口的基于Chromium的浏覽器都可以用上新版Flash Player了，但是注意Google Chrome并不需要、也不使用這種新的安裝程式。

據體驗過PPAPI Flash Player的使用者稱，它的CPU和記憶體占用率會比較高，主要是因為緩存大多放在記憶體裡而不是硬碟上，還請注意。

2、Stage3D硬體加速新配置

Flash Player 14在桌面版本中引入了新的Stage3D GPU硬體加速技術，可釋放CPU壓力，減輕資源消耗，但當時僅有标準版配置檔案。Flash Player 15将其帶入了移動版AIR。

Flash Player 16則增加了标準受限版(Standard Constrained )的配置檔案，面向較老、較低端的GPU，支援桌面和移動平台，比如适合85％的iOS裝置。

開發者可以使用Context3DProfile裡的新常量STANDARD_CONSTRAINED來通路它。
