In 1931, due to the misfortune that had happened to his family, his mother and eldest brother's house was set on fire by reactionaries. In the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation, Li Binshan performed well, made many meritorious contributions, and finally won the rank of founding major general. In 1976, he was embroiled in an attempted coup d'état, which shocked the superstructure.
