Wu Reborn: Be a person with an interesting soul

Wu was reborn

Li Xiaodan/Wen

From the 19-year-old Pujiang teenager who wrote his first collection of poems, to the current poet and editor-in-chief, when it comes to poetry and literature, Wu Chongsheng's biggest experience is that literature is useful and interesting, and he must be a person with an interesting soul and a free heart.

These lines of poetry may become arrows in response

"I always read Taicang as a sea of vicissitudes, the whole East China Sea as a human bag, and the southern bank of the Yangtze River estuary as rich, beautiful, and peaceful..." This is the opening of the first group of poems in Wu Reborn's latest poetry collection, "The Sun Is Watched by People.". Referring to mountains as evidence in his walking, and encountering rivers unexpectedly, Wu Changsheng hopes to use poetry to convey light and warmth, and to tell the temperature and texture of life.

"My first collection of poems was called "The Collected Works of the Waves", and the second collection of poems was called "Commemoration of the Twenty-Year-Old", both of which I mimeographed on wax paper myself, and at that time I was a deputy secretary of the Youth League Committee and a cultural officer in the township government, and I also ran a mimeograph tabloid "Daxi Youth". Wu Reborn said.

It was from the 19-year-old poem collection that Wu Chongsheng interacted with the text for more than 30 years, successively serving as the deputy director of the Cultural Special Publication Department of Jinhua Evening News, the deputy director of the News Center of Zhejiang Workers Daily, the director of the Zhejiang Reporter Station of China Press and Publication Daily, the director of the Yangtze River Delta Regional Editorial Center of China Press and Publication Newspaper, and the marketing director of China Press Publishing and Media Group; since March 2016, he has served as the director of the Beijing Branch of Zhejiang Daily Newspaper Group and the director of the Beijing Reporter Station of Zhejiang Daily; at the end of 2020, Transferred to China Photography Publishing House.

Engaged in journalism for more than 30 years, Wu Chongsheng has been on the road of seeking truth and pursuing poetry.

Writers who are journalists are not uncommon, such as Hemingway, Orwell, Mo Yan, Jin Yong... Journalistic careers became the cornerstone of their entry into the halls of literature. In the history of Chinese journalism, there are many journalists who are also well-known writers, such as Deng Tuo, Fan Changjiang, Mu Qing and other predecessors. Wu Chongsheng believes that news works emphasize the truth of events, and literary works emphasize emotional truth, and falsehood and emptiness cannot impress readers. "Authenticity is what moves people. My poetry and prose works do not have obscure plots and mysterious words, and I advocate the use of plain language to express the pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty. ”

In April 2015, Wu Chongsheng's poetry collection "You Are a Young Light" was published by the People's Literature Publishing House, which was the result of his practice of "one poem a day" in 2014.

Wu Reborn interpreted the name of the collection of poems this way: "Light is ageable, young light, representing the upward energy of youth. This is in line with my philosophy of literary creation. Poetry is a force, and I hope that I can maintain a young creative mentality and always be a young light. In June 2021, Wu Chongsheng won the 12th Shanghai Literature Award with his group poem "The Messenger", and a total of 27 writers won this year, and Mo Yan's "Notes on Yidouge" won the special prize.

Once, Wu Chongsheng met an old friend he had not seen for many years, and this old friend recited a poem written by Wu Chongsheng twenty years ago. This surprised and deeply moved Wu Chongsheng. This friend told Wu Chongsheng that when he was depressed when he encountered difficulties, it was Wu Reborn's poem that gave him strength and allowed him to get out of the haze. No wonder Zhang Hailong, the initiator of "We Read Poetry" and a poetry critic, commented on Wu Chongsheng's poems: "It seems that they are just delicate and thin lines of poetry, and they should not be of much use." And when you are hit hard by the real world, these lines of poetry may become arrows in response and bones to support. ”

Behind him are the endless mountains of his hometown pujiang

Wu Chongsheng is a native of Pujiang, Zhejiang, and the Pujiang people are brilliant and have a flourishing literary style. Wu Wei, the compiler of the earliest surviving poetry society collection on the mainland, the Yuequan Yinshe Poems, and Song Lian, one of the "Three Great Poets of the Early Ming Dynasty", were Pujiang people.

"I have worked in Jinhua for 10 years, I have worked in Hangzhou for 10 years, and my creative accumulation stage is in Zhejiang. Pujiang is my hometown, I love my hometown, and my hometown has given me irreplaceable literary nourishment. In 2020, Professor Liu Shuyong, head of the Art Department of the Central University of Finance and Economics, carefully created more than ten illustrations for Wu Chongsheng's poems. After carefully reading Wu Chongsheng's poetry collection "Star Catching", the Internet celebrity painter with the pen name "Old Tree Painting" said to Wu Reborn with emotion: "Teacher Wu, you are a person with a hometown, and behind you is the endless mountains of your hometown Pujiang. ”

In Wu Chongsheng's view, the hometown is a person's spiritual habitat and a place to nourish your spirit. For a writer and poet, the landscapes and rivers of his hometown are his backing, which will give him strong spiritual support and creative inspiration.

"My hometown is in the countryside of Zhejiang, before going to primary school, I went to the pond and the small river to herd ducks, cut rice, plant seedlings, cut firewood, these agricultural tasks have been done, this rural life experience, in my young heart sowed the seeds of love for life." 」 Wu Reborn said.

In March 2020, China Youth Publishing House published Wu Chongsheng's poetry collection "Star Catching" and prose collection "Catching Clouds". "Everything is insightful and learned, and human emotions are articles." In Wu Chongsheng's view, life itself is a poem, and there is no lack of deep taste and connotation in ordinary life.

"What is poetry?" Poetry is the truth spoken by the poet. "Wu Chongsheng believes that life is not lacking in beauty, what is lacking is the eye that finds beauty." I don't know the true face of Lushan Mountain, but I am only in this mountain." Poets should always maintain a sense of freshness and creative passion for life, poetry creation is to look at the people and things you encounter with strange eyes every day, to appreciate the scenery you encounter, to dig out the beauty of life, temper into poetic beauty, and let it become part of your life experience and part of your spiritual wealth.

"Writing poetry is a virtue, and a true poet is a person with feelings, responsibility, and interest." Wu Reborn said.

He always put his ears up to listen to the clarion call of the times

Wu Chongsheng insisted on engaging in literary creation in his spare time, from the advocacy of "one poem a day" to the opening of prose and poetry writing columns in many print media such as Qianjiang Evening News, Jiangnan Youbao, Procuratorial Daily, and Economic Observer. "Open your eyes, I start to burn", why choose this "backward" way of creation?

"People are inert, and I plan to publish a 10 million-word "Wu Rebirth Anthology" at the age of seventy, and I can only insist on creating every day, using this 'backward forced' writing method to prevent myself from putting her pen down because of laziness." As early as 20 years ago, Mr. Fang Zengxian, chairman of the Shanghai Artists Association, wrote five words for Wu Chongsheng's inscription "Wu Reborn Anthology" and gave it to him with ten words of "Puyang is multi-talented, Wuxi has new people". What Wu Chongsheng calls "closed-up" writing is to set up a column for daily changes. This approach was described by him as "a mutual fulfillment between oneself and literature."

"Many young people ask me how to write good poems, and I have a very stupid way, that is, to suggest that young people tear down all the poems they have written and rewrite them, leave no sentence, and rewrite one." Wu Chongsheng believes that poetry requires the expression of one's thoughts in a defamiliarized language, and it is not only original in language, but also poetic originality. Wu Chongsheng said that poetry creation must use less "common language", that is, to use less idioms, not only to create language, but also to be creative in conception.

Wu Chongsheng believes that the more fragmented the information, the more precious it is to read on paper. The more impetuous society is, the more people need poetry, and they need to enrich their hearts with words with substance and connotation. Compared with online reading, paper reading conveys more information, there will be a sound when turning the book, the paper will have the fragrance of ink, and the book will be heavy in the hand. Books can be placed not only on the desk, but also on the pillow and on the edge of the dining table. Reading is an integral part of the ritual sense of life. "I'll put a book in my bag, take it out and read it when I take the subway, and sit under the trees in the neighborhood when I walk home and look at the lake and flowers for half an hour." Wu Reborn said.

Wu Reborn's poems include the sun and the moon, dust and snow, the great realm of "the stars are brilliant, if they are out of it", there is also the life situation of "more blowing down, the stars are like rain"; there is the optimism and open-mindedness of "the sky is bright for me alone", and there is also the "sun and moon are safe" Lexing Ann Chen? " Is the ultimate question.

Wu Changsheng always put up his ears to listen to the clarion call of the times. Light is the background of Wu Rebirth's poetry, and the overall style of his poetry is more and more warm and uplifting. In his poems, it is difficult to find the muffled illusory sounds, lamentations of decadence and decadence; some are to travel with the light, to wake up the "big me" to be brave. In his poetic works, there is a strong sense of "homeland". The poet sublimates this sense of homeland into love for the motherland, love for hometown, and love for Chinese culture, reflecting the chinese sons' and daughters' yearning and pursuit of a better life.

It is worth mentioning that most of Wu Reborn's poetic works were completed on the subway. The author takes the subway to work once a day to transfer, a total of ten stops. He usually thought about the topic when he entered the subway station at the west gate of the Beijing Institute of Technology, and when Zhang Zizhonglu stood out, a poem was conceived and completed. Every day as soon as I arrived at the unit, I began to work for the day, as if this writing journey did not exist. Over the course of a year, the "by-products" of work have accumulated into more than 100 poems alone.

In terms of poetic style, Wu Reborn conducted an in-depth exploration. Reading his poems, you can read not only the grandeur of the momentum, but also the depth of the artistic conception, and you can also read the pleasure of the side and the philosophy of discovery. After serving as the editor-in-chief of the China Photography Publishing House, Wu Chongsheng found that poetry can be "organically integrated" with video works, using the form of "poetry with pictures" or "pictures with poems" to enhance poetry and interpret the "unfinished words" of photographers and poets. He appealed on different occasions, hoping that photographers, especially the majority of grassroots photographers, can attach importance to the text writing of "picture illustrations" and attach importance to improving their literacy outside of photography, especially literary literacy.
