Excellent Location: Little Ragged Island, also known as St Andrew's Island, is the southernmost island of the 100-mile Ragged Island chain of inlets in the Bahamas and not far from 'Billionaire's Row' where Darby Island (see Issue 0003) is located. The island is a 10-minute boat ride from the nearby town of Duncan, five miles away, which also has a private airstrip for longer trips. The island is about 139 miles north of Cuba, 372 miles southeast of Miami and 223 miles from Nassau, the capital and largest city of the Bahamas, all within easy reach by plane or private jet. Large size with greater potential: Don't be fooled by the name of Little Ragged Island. It is not little and ragged at all! Its 730 acres, fringed by pristine white sand beaches and surrounded by azure ocean waters, are undulating at elevations ranging from sea level to hilly 40 feet and breathtaking from first sight. With no existing structures and virtually unsullied by any forms of man-made pollution, the island is the most primitive and natural blank canvas, giving you endless space for imagination and creativity. Abundant Flora and Fauna: One of the most impressive natural features of this oceanic getaway is its lush native flora. The most notable of these trees, besides the fields of coconut palms, are the lignum vitae trees that populate many part over the rolling hills of the Little Ragged Island. The official national tree of the Bahamas, the lignum tree has long been known for its medicinal properties, as well as the durability of its wood, which is therefore often used to produce sturdy wooden vessels and other practical items. In addition, the most surprising thing is that there are fresh springs everywhere to drink from. Here, you don't have to worry about drinking water at all. There are also two large freshwater ponds on the island. There is a great abundance of fish in the ponds and around the island. You can see a lot of grouper, snapper, barracuda, tuna and kingfish swimming in the reefs. The soil is rich and fresh water is abundant, so you can grow other plants on the island or start aquaculture with fish and so on.
