On September 17, the Holstein public account posted an article titled "What if one day China can't buy American embryos and frozen sperm?" The article, the article in the French GD Of Dr. Gong Weijia said: At present, domestic Holstein cattle in the breed selection of complete reference to the United States TPI evaluation system, embryos and frozen sperm are basically imported from North America, excessive dependence on North America will further improve the inbreeding index of domestic Holstein cows, which has a serious impact on the milk production of dairy cows.
So, how much does China's dairy farming industry rely on North American frozen sperm and embryos? According to the incomplete statistics of The Oaks Market Survey, an excellent breeding enterprise in China, the annual sales volume of imported frozen semen is more than 4 million doses, which has occupied half of the frozen semen market and the market share has gradually expanded. According to Holstein statistics, in 2018, North American bovine jelly sperm accounted for about 80% of the total imported bovine jelly sperm in China, of which U.S. bovine jelly sperm accounted for more than 50%; and most of the imported bovine embryos came from the United States and Canada, and in 2018, despite the sudden increase in imported Australian bovine embryos, U.S.-Canadian cattle embryos still accounted for 56% of total imports. In 2019, due to the decline in exports from other exporting countries to China, the market share of North American bovine jelly sperm and embryos will be further increased.
China's bovine frozen semen and bovine embryo import data are measured in kilograms, and can only be analyzed from the export data of the source country.
In 2018, China's imports of bovine jelly essence source countries are the United States, Canada, the European Union (France, Germany, Britain, Romania, the Netherlands, Sweden), Norway, Australia, Argentina, according to the export data of these countries to China, the United States exports 3.21 million doses, the European Union 860,000 doses, Australia 190,000 doses, Argentina 20,000 doses, Canada and Norway only announced the export value, Norway Keno company provided data of 70,000 doses, the above countries are estimated to export about 5.8 million doses to China, the United States accounts for about 54%, the United States and Canada account for about 80%.
From the data since 2008, China's imports of cattle embryos are mainly from the United States and Canada, two North American countries, Australia only exported cattle embryos to China in 2014, 2015, 2018, China's dependence on North American cattle embryos can be imagined.
In 2018, Australian cattle embryos, which had been suspended for 2 years, suddenly exported a large number of Australian cattle embryos to China, a total of 1584 pieces, exceeding the 1484 pieces in the United States and 549 pieces in Canada, and the United States and Canada accounted for 56% of the total exports to China.

Major countries export bovine embryos to China, 2008-2018
From January to July 2019, the United States exported 2.65 million doses of bovine jelly to China, an increase of 73% year-on-year, and 1091 bovine embryos, an increase of 20% year-on-year. However, Canada's exports to China have decreased significantly for some reason, with only 52 cattle embryos. China's customs data show that from January to July, canada's frozen semen imports decreased by 64% year-on-year, and Norwegian cattle frozen semen imports also decreased year-on-year, and Argentine cattle frozen essence was not imported. In the first half of 2019, the EU exports of bovine jelly semen to China decreased by 32%; Australia's export of bovine jelly semen to China decreased by 20%, and cattle embryos were not exported to China. The increase in U.S. bovine genetic product imports has compensated for the decline in Canada, and other exporters' exports to China have declined, so the share of imports of North American bovine jelly sperm and bovine embryos will increase in 2019.
