Authorized new variety of hibiscus flowers 'Golden Autumn Red'
According to the team's Shi Xiaoqing garden engineer, the five new varieties of hibiscus flowers that obtained the right to plant new varieties were 'Golden Autumn Red', 'Golden Autumn Song' and 'Cai xia', 'Jinrui' and 'Jin Jasper' selected by hybridization in 1994 and 1998, and their common characteristics are not fruitful except for a small amount of 'Golden Autumn Red'. The difference is that the 'Golden Autumn Red', which has red pollen, is a peony-type heavy-petaled variety that blooms from early August to late October. The petals of the heavy-petaled variety 'Golden Autumn Song' are large and compact, with fewer broken petals, and the flowers are gradually changed from pink to purple after blooming, with a beautiful posture and a flowering period of October. The main feature of the pink semi-heavy petal variety 'Cai Xia' is that the heart-eye area is purple-red, the base of the leaf is heart-shaped, and the leaf edges have a small number of blunt serrations, and the flowering period is from the beginning of June to the end of October. The single-petal variety 'Jinrui' is a cup-shaped corolla with purple-red flowers and a flowering period of about 30 days from late September to late October. 'Jasper' is a pink heavy-petaled variety that blooms from mid-September to late October.
Authorized new variety of hibiscus flowers 'Golden Autumn Song'
It is understood that Sichuan is one of the important origins of hibiscus flowers. Hibiscus flowers have been cultivated in Chengdu for more than 2,000 years, so Chengdu is known as "Rongcheng", and in 1983, hibiscus flowers were designated as chengdu city flowers. At present, the team has collected and preserved nearly 200 hibiscus flower germplasm resources at home and abroad, which is the richest and most complete variety of hibiscus flower germplasm resources in the world, and is the first national hibiscus germplasm resource bank in China. On this basis, there are more than 30 new and excellent varieties of hibiscus flowers independently cultivated, of which the above 5 varieties + 'Splendid Purple' and '100 Days Colorful' that obtained the new variety rights in 2020, the park currently has 7 new excellent varieties of hibiscus flowers authorized, and 2 new excellent varieties have passed the approval and identification of fine seeds by the Sichuan Provincial Forest and Grassland Bureau. At the same time, through research, the viewing time of hibiscus flowers was adjusted from the original September to October to June to November, and the ornamental period of the longest flowering variety reached more than 180 days.
