The University of Hong Kong, referred to simply as "HKU". It is an international public research university located in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, and is generally considered to be one of the most prestigious universities in Asia, known as the "Ivy League" in Asia. It was founded on 16 March 1910 and officially incorporated on 30 March of the following year, making it the oldest higher education institution in Hong Kong. In its early years, the University of Hong Kong was extremely small, with only 23 graduates from its official opening on 11 March 1912 to its first graduation ceremony in December 1916. After April 9, 1948, the reconstruction of school order and structural transformation were carried out simultaneously, and entered a golden period of rapid development.

History of the University of Hong Kong
The University of Hong Kong is the first university in Hong Kong, formed by the merger of the Hong Kong Western Medical College and the Hong Kong Government Technical College established in 1887, and was officially established on Hong Kong Island in 1911; Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the Founding Father of the Republic of China, was the first graduate of the Hong Kong College of Western Medicine.
HKU was founded in 1911 and the official inauguration ceremony was held in 1912. Because Luji believed that Chinese society at that time was not suitable for contact with Western humanistic values (such as communist ideas), the university initially imitated the system of the University of Liverpool, emphasizing science and engineering over humanities, so it only had three colleges: medical school, school of engineering and college of letters, of which there were no humanities courses such as sociology and philosophy.
The first graduation ceremony was held in December 1916 with 23 graduates and 5 honorary graduates.
After the 1925-1926 provincial and Hong Kong general strikes, in order to further communicate between Chinese and Western cultures, the government convened local gentlemen and merchants to negotiate the establishment of a Chinese department at the University of Hong Kong to enroll graduates of Hanwen Secondary School.
In 1927, the Department of Chinese of HKU was established, inviting former Hanlin Lai Jixi, Au DaDian and other teachers, coupled with the donation of wealthy businessmen Deng Zhiang to establish the Chinese College, Feng Pingshan donated money to establish Chinese library, etc., which surged a trend of attaching importance to Chinese education.
In 1941, due to the fall of Hong Kong, the headquarters building was destroyed and was discontinued until 1945; After the war, with the needs of society, science schools, law schools, social science colleges, etc. were successively added.
In 1956, in response to the rapidly changing social needs, the University of Hong Kong established the Department of Continuing Education to support adult education.
