Dongting Dongshan Suigao Hall, the former residence of the Ming Dynasty hermit Wang Quan, is the oldest because of the poetry of The Ming Dynasty Prime Minister Wang Jun

Suigaotang is located in the ancient village of Dongshan Luxiang in Suzhou City, and was founded during the Ming Dynasty. At present, only the gate tower, Suigaotang Hall and back building on a longitudinal axis remain, which is the oldest Ming Dynasty ancient building in the ancient village.

The master, Wang Quan, was a cousin of The Chancellor Wang Jun during the Ming Dynasty, and had been elected to serve in Hangzhou Province, but he did not want to be an official and did not go to the post. Wang Jun once wrote to him with the sentence "Lose with the Yi people and be high", so he named the house Sui Gao Tang.

Suigao Hall spans two streets and has two entrances and exits. If you follow the traditional tourist route, if you don't miss it, you will usually enter through the back door.

The back entrance is located not far from a lane on main street, in the middle of a 2-storey house, with a sign "Dongting Merchants' Exhibition Hall".

This gatehouse is very special, with pistol-shaped brick carvings on the sills. There are also two layers of dripping eaves on top, with different shapes of lace, and a delicate leather ridge in the middle.

Suigaotang building is relatively simple, low-key, there is no garden, the overall scale is not large, in line with the behavior style of Jiangnan hermits.
