Its name is the Gan's giant crab, commonly known as the killer crab, a large spider crab that lives on the bottom of the northwest Pacific Ocean, and is currently the largest crustacean in the world. It is mainly distributed in the silt area of the Pacific Ocean seabed 500 to 1000 meters outside the northeast corner of Taiwan from Iwate Prefecture in Japan.
The largest killer crab has a leg length of 4.2 meters, a body length of 38 centimeters, a weight of 20 kilograms, and a lifespan of about 100 years. They have a dark orange body covered with white spots, 4 pairs of long limbs and 1 pair of large claws, and feed mainly on sharks, crabs, hagfish and various fish.
Killer crabs are social animals, usually like to compare foot strength, they use large jaws to hook opponents to determine the level of status. The old assemblies of the crab swarm rest on the highest stone, and if any other crab stands taller than it, it will immediately stomp the other person to its feet.
How does this crab, which lives on the bottom of the sea, "kill"? It turns out that the name of the killer crab is a translation error, because they like to eat the carrion of various animals, and the Common Name in English is "dead man crab". Because of its large size, it was made up of some terrible stories, so when it was introduced to China, it was translated as "killing crab".
Not only are they unable to kill people, they are often captured by local fishermen. Some have become "prisoners" of aquariums, and some have become delicacies on the human table.
