Before we gave you a little science popularization of small virus ~
I think everyone should have some understanding of small
Shovelers know it too
Except for parvovirus
As one of the "two major cancers of dogs"
Canine distemper for our dogs
It is also fatal
so
Today we will talk about canine distemper

Canine distemper is a highly exposing, lethal infectious disease in dogs caused by the canine distemper virus.
Early symptoms resemble colds, followed by bronchitis, sputum pneumonia, and gastroenteritis.
Neurologic symptoms such as spasms and convulsions may be seen in the later stages of the disease, and in some cases, high keratosis of the nasal and corner pads may occur. Highly contagious, the mortality rate can be as high as more than 80%.
The disease can occur throughout the year, but it occurs frequently in winter and spring. The disease has a certain periodicity, a pandemic every three years, and dogs of different ages, sexes and breeds can be infected, but juvenile puppies are the most susceptible.
Purebred dogs and police dogs are more susceptible to infection than native dogs, and the disease is severe and the mortality rate is also high.
The most important sources of infection are nasal and eye secretions and urine. It has been reported that after 60-90 days of dogs infected with canine plague virus, there is still virus excreted in the urine, so urine is a very dangerous source of infection, the main transmission route is direct contact between sick dogs and healthy dogs, and can also be infected through the respiratory tract through air droplets.
Once a dog in the same room is found to have canine plague, no matter how tight protective measures are taken, it cannot avoid infection of dogs living in the same room.
The incubation period of canine distemper is 3-9 days, and the symptoms are diverse, related to the strength of the virulence, environmental conditions, age and immune status.
Symptoms of canine distemper begin with an increase in body temperature, which lasts for 1-3 days. Then it subsides, much like the characteristics of a cold healing. However, after a few days, the body temperature rose again, and the duration was uncertain. Lacrimination, redness of the conjunctiva of the eye, and muscular discharge from liquid to muscular. The nasal area is dry, and there is nasal fluid flowing out, starting with serous nasal fluid and then becoming purulent nasal fluid.
At first, there was a dry cough, which turned into a wet cough and difficulty breathing. Vomiting, diarrhea, intussusception, and eventually death with severe dehydration and weakness.
Neurosymptomatic canine plague, most of which occurs within 10 days or so of the above symptoms. Clinically, cases of keratosis of the foot pads and keratosis of the nose cause many neurological symptoms.
Symptoms vary due to the different sites where the canine distemper virus affects the central nervous system. Viral damage to the brain is manifested by epilepsy, circumference, abnormal standing posture, gait instability, ataxia, paroxysmal twitching of the masticatory muscles and limbs, and other neurological symptoms, and the prognosis of this type of neurogenic canine plague is mostly poor.
Canine distemper virus can cause some canine eye damage, clinically characterized by conjunctivitis, keratitis, keratitis is mostly common about 15 days after the onset of the disease, cornea whitening, severe can appear corneal ulcers, perforation, blindness.
The disease has a high mortality rate in puppies, with mortality rates of 80 to 90%. It may also be secondary to symptoms such as pneumonia, enteritis, and intussusception.
Clinically, once the characteristic symptoms of canine distemper appear, the prognosis is very poor. Especially dogs that have not been immunized. Although clinically symptomatic treatment is carried out, it is difficult to control the progression of the disease, and most of them die with neurological symptoms and exhaustion. Partially recovered dogs generally leave different degrees of sequelae.
01
The prevention of this disease is to be regularly immunized against canine plague.
The immunization program is:
The first exemption time is 50 days old;
The two exemptions are carried out at an age of 80 days;
The three exemptions are carried out at 110 days of age.
After three immunizations, thereafter once a year, the current market sales of six, five, triple vaccines can be immunized according to the above procedures
02
Once canine distemper occurs, in order to prevent the spread of the epidemic, the sick dog must be quickly and strictly isolated, and the premises and environment must be thoroughly disinfected with fire alkali, sodium hypochlorite, and Lysu.
Contact between sick dogs and healthy dogs is strictly prohibited, and for presumed healthy dogs that have not yet developed the disease and dogs threatened by the epidemic, passive immunization should be carried out immediately with canine distemper high free serum or emergency preventive injection with pediatric measles vaccine, and then injected with canine distemper vaccine after the epidemic situation stabilizes.
High-dose canine distemper high-free serum injections can be used after the onset of clinical symptoms to control the development of the disease.
The administration of a large dose of high-free serum during the initial fever of canine distemper can enhance the body with sufficient antibodies to prevent the appearance of clinical symptoms and achieve the purpose of treatment. For medium- and late-stage diseases with obvious clinical symptoms of canine distemper and neurological symptoms, even if the canine distemper is injected with high serum, it is mostly difficult to cure.
Symptomatic treatment: sugar replenishment, rehydration, antipyretic, prevention of secondary infection, strengthening feeding management and other methods, has a certain therapeutic effect on the disease.
In fact, once a dog suffers from canine distemper, it is a very dangerous thing. Therefore, we must give the dog a good vaccine to do a good job of prevention. Don't wait until your dog is sick and regret it!
