Liu Bao: The founder of China's automation instrumentation profession

Liu Bao was born in Shanghai in June 1923. His father, Liu Haili, was a famous art educator and master of art in China. Liu Bao was in the early stage of his father's entrepreneurship, and often interacted with Cai Yuanpei, Xu Zhimo, Fu Lei and other people in the educational and cultural circles, and under their influence, Liu Bao was determined to fight for the revitalization of the motherland from an early age. Therefore, in 1948, Liu Bao was admitted to the Graduate School of the University of Colorado in the United States, enrolled in the Department of Mechanical Mechanics, and obtained a master's degree in the spring of 1949. In the same year, he was hired as an engineer in Philadelphia, USA.

In 1950, Liu Bao resolutely gave up the superior conditions and rare opportunities in the United States and returned to the embrace of the motherland with full enthusiasm for building the motherland. Since then, the young Liu Bao has begun a long road of scientific research.

After returning to China, Liu Bao founded China's first automation instrument major, he used the advanced automation technology knowledge he learned in the United States, and opened the first new chemical automation course "Chemical Automatic Detection and Automatic Control" and "Automation" in Tianjin University for the newly established chemical machinery major. In 1956, the "Principle of Automatic Control" course was opened for the Department of Precision Instrument Engineering of the university. In the same year, tianjin university founded the country's first automation instrumentation major - chemical instrumentation and automation major. At that time, Liu Bao worked day and night. Prepare a teaching plan for the new major and the syllabus of some of the main courses, and create a new professional teaching and research department. His work has played an important role in the establishment and development of the discipline of automation instrumentation in China.

He has been a national leader in the field of automatic control, but does not meet the status quo, but aims at the needs of the country, "turned" to the field of system engineering, and also achieved the leading achievements in the country, making great contributions to the development of the country. At the end of the 1970s, Liu Bao also actively promoted the use of systems engineering methods to study energy planning, and never stopped exploring on the road of scientific research.

As a "returnee", Liu Bao also realized the importance of talent for the country's progress. Therefore, he has been on the journey of cultivating talents for the country all his life. In the hearts of students, Liu Bao is a "strict teacher", he has been doing rigorous learning all his life, when guiding student papers, not only carefully discussing academic ideas, repeatedly deliberating the rigor of methods, even the rhetoric, punctuation and format of the paper are also meticulous requirements; in life, he also takes great care of students, every time students go to his home, he always warmly welcomes students.
