Nanfang Daily News (Reporter/Shao Yihong Correspondent/Lin Yin) Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Forestry Bureau issued the "Directory of Terrestrial Wild Animals under Key Protection in Guangdong Province" (hereinafter referred to as the "List"), and a number of wild animals such as the Guangdong endemic species guangdong neck groove snake, patio mountain grass lizard, Yunkai palm toad, black stone top horned toad, Nankunshan horned toad, Shimentai horned toad, and Dinghu head dragonfly have been selected in recent years.
The number of species protected in the new Edition of the List has increased from 81 to 146 today. Among them, there are 10 species of mammals, 107 species of birds, 14 species of reptiles, 12 species of amphibians and 3 species of insects. It is worth mentioning that the new version of the "List" has added bats and insects to make up for the shortcomings of the previous list. This is also the first adjustment since the implementation of the "List" in 2001, and the assessment and formulation of terrestrial wild animals in the province are carried out in accordance with the six principles of endangerment, preciousness, similarity, uniqueness, compatibility and attention.
In terms of endangerment, experts and scholars focus on "critically endangered" species distributed in Guangdong Province and with wild populations at risk of extinction, "endangered" species with narrow distribution areas and sparse wild populations, and "vulnerable" species with obvious or continuous decline in wild populations and relatively low conservation status, which may be endangered or endangered in the near future, such as long-tailed ducks, small chamois, and red chamois.
For the amphibians and reptiles endemic to Guangdong Province, such as the Fengkai horned toad, the Dongguan horned toad, the Guangdong neck groove snake, the Shenzhen houzhi snake, the patio mountain grass lizard, etc., considering that these species are newly discovered species in recent years, and the distribution area is narrow, the population number and endangerment degree have not been assessed, so they are included in the scope of protection. It is understood that the "Directory of Terrestrial Wild Animals under Key Protection in Guangdong Province (First Batch)" promulgated and implemented in 2001 has been nearly 20 years. The revised new version of the Directory is of great significance to further strengthening the protection and management of terrestrial wildlife in the province, effectively protecting terrestrial wildlife resources, maintaining biodiversity, and promoting harmony between man and nature and the construction of ecological civilization.
