The National Hand Mountain Cup began in 2014, the first four National Hand Mountain Cups were all team competitions, and the fifth National Hand Mountain Cup in 2018 was restructured into an individual competition. In the first National Hand Mountain Cup after last year's restructuring, South Korean chess player Park Tinghuan Jiudan defeated Chinese Taipei chess player Wang Yuanjun Jiudan in the final to win the championship.
