Before the World Cup in Sweden, the competition looked fierce. The hosts have a talented but heroic squad, with France, Argentina and Brazil promising but inexperienced. The once-mighty Hungarian team is also gone, and the Soviet Union seems to be very strong. Four teams from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales qualified for the first and only time. But only one team and one player came out in the end – Brazil and pele, 17.
Brazil are determined to win their first World Cup title. France scored 23 goals against Paraguay and reached the semi-finals. Sweden went well, while Wales beat Hungary in extra time to advance to the quarter-finals.
Danny Blanche Frauer, the best passing master of this World Cup, led Northern Ireland to the quarter-finals.
The hosts took an early lead and Lidholm scored a goal in the 4th minute, but it didn't bode well. According to Sweden's England coach George Renault, "Brazil were not discouraged, they were coming to the ball to restart the game. What he feared finally happened: at the end of the first half, Vawa scored two goals to give Brazil a 2-1 lead, and in the second half Brazil scored three more, two of which came from Pele. The final whistle sounded, Bailey burst into tears, and his path to international superstarhood began.
