On June 29th, the "Centennial Journey and Hundred Maps Documentary - Dongguan City Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China Art Creation Engineering Exhibition" was opened. This is a major literary and artistic creation project in Dongguan to celebrate the centenary of the founding of the Party, and it is also the key work of Dongguan to implement the construction of "Quality Culture Capital" in 2021.
The implementation of the "100 Years and 100 Maps" art creation project is an important exploration of Dongguan's practice of cultural people, cultural education and cultural peiyuan on the occasion of the centenary of the founding of the Party, and there are 27 local painters in Dongguan among the 37 participating artists, so this is also a large-scale training of Dongguan art.
Through three years of meticulous planning, many artists have taken time as the scripture and the character events as the weft, and used art to narrate the history of art and set up a biography for the times, depicting the earth-shaking changes and great achievements made in Dongguan under the leadership of the party in the past hundred years.
The "100 Years and 100 Pictures" art creation engineering works are mainly Chinese paintings, oil paintings, watercolors and sculptures. It is divided into four chapters: Beacon Years (1921-1949), Yanlu Blue Wisp (1949-1978), Yongli Chaotou (1978-2012), and Striving for a New Era (2012-2021), showing a total of 100 creative themes.

In November 1924, Mo Cuihua, Cai Ruping and Cai Rixin, members of the Socialist Youth League, were successively introduced by the Guangdong District Committee of the League to join the Communist Party of China, becoming the first batch of Communist Party members in Dongguan. In December, the Dongguan branch of the CPC was established, with three party members, Mo Cuihua, Cai Ruping and Cai Rixin, with Mo Cuihua as the secretary, subordinate to the Guangdong District Committee of the CPC, and the party and the league organized together. This was the first local CCP organization in Dongguan, and Dongguan became one of the first six counties in Guangdong Province to establish a CCP branch. Since then, the people of Dongguan have had strong organizers and leaders in their anti-imperialist and anti-feudal revolutionary struggle.

After the defeat of the Great Revolution, the CCP's Dongguan organization was severely damaged. In the early autumn of 1927, Cai Ruping gathered hidden Communist Party members from all over the country and re-established the party's leading body, the first CPC Dongguan County Committee.

On December 2, 1943, the Dongjiang Column of the Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Force was publicly announced, with Zeng Sheng as commander, Yin Linping as political commissar, Wang Zuoyao as deputy commander and chief of staff, and Yang Kanghua as director of the political department. The Dongjiang Column was reorganized from the former Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Corps, which initially had 7 brigades with a total of more than 3,000 people, and then gradually developed to 11 detachments (independent brigades) of more than 11,000 people, of which the first and second detachments operated in the East (Guan) Bao (An) Hui (Yang) area. This is an anti-Japanese armed force of the South China people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The Dongjiang Column persisted in an independent guerrilla war in the harsh environment of being caught between the enemy and the stubborn army, turned to the two banks of the Dongjiang River, penetrated deep behind the enemy in Hong Kong, advanced into the mountainous areas of northern Guangdong and the Plain of the Han River, made important contributions to the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, and was praised by the Central Military Commission of the CPC As "the banner of the liberation of the people of Guangdong."

On October 17, 1949, the third regiment of the first detachment of the Dongjiang Detachment of the Guangdong-Gansu-Xiangbian Column of the Chinese People's Liberation Army marched into Guancheng, took over the Kuomintang county government, accepted the surrender of the remnants of the third brigade of the Kuomintang county police, and declared the liberation of Dongguan. The CPC Dongguan County CPC Committee and the county people's government moved from Dalingshan in the Liberated Area to Guancheng, Lu Huanguang became the first secretary of the county party committee after the liberation of Dongguan, and Yang Pei became the first county governor of the county people's government after the liberation of Dongguan. The liberation of Dongguan has opened a new chapter in the history of Dongguan.

After the founding of New China, Dongguan has sent a large number of outstanding swimmers to the provincial and national professional swimming teams. In 1958, Dongguan swimmers achieved outstanding results in many domestic competitions, and Dongguan won the title of "Swimming Town" by the National Sports Commission.

The famous writer Chen Renyun went to Dongguan County in the 1950s to experience life and wrote a novel "Fragrant Four Seasons", which depicted a typical water town scenery. Since then, "Fragrant Four Seasons" has become an era mark of Dongguan's agricultural development, and the works show the idyllic scenery of Dongguan's water town area before the reform and opening up.

In July 1978, the State Council promulgated the Trial Measures for Carrying Out Foreign Processing and Assembly Business. On August 30, dongguan county second light bureau and Hong Kong Xinfu handbag products company signed Dongguan's first contract for processing enterprises. On September 15, Dongguan Taiping Handbag Factory, the first foreign material processing plant in China, officially started construction. Since then, Dongguan's external processing and assembly enterprises have continued to develop. Since 1985, Dongguan has raised funds through various forms to introduce a number of communication equipment with international advanced level in the 1980s, such as Japan and the United Kingdom. On May 27, 1987, Dongguan City was the first to open 20,000 program-controlled telephones including 12 exchange points in Guancheng and 15 towns (districts); on June 15, 1989, 33,000 program-controlled telephones were opened in the remaining 17 towns (districts), thus taking the lead in building the country's first urban-rural integrated digital program-controlled telephone exchange network, and long-distance telephones can be directly dialed to more than 250 large and medium-sized cities in China and more than 150 countries and regions overseas.

On June 9, 1997, the Humen Bridge was officially opened to traffic, becoming the first large-scale suspension bridge in China, with a main channel span of 888 meters, ranking the forefront of the country at that time, and was known as "the world's first span". The completion of the Humen Bridge will make the traffic from Dongguan, Shenzhen and Eastern Guangdong to Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Western Guangdong without detours, and the driving mileage can be shortened by more than 120 kilometers, which is of great significance to the economic development of Guangdong Province and the take-off of the Pearl River Delta.
Chapter FOUR: Striving for a New Era
(2012–present)

On April 26, 2007, China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) was officially launched in Dongguan. Construction began on October 20, 2011. On August 23, 2018, it passed the national acceptance and was put into operation. The project is jointly built by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Guangdong Province, with a total investment of about 2.3 billion yuan. This is China's first and the world's fourth pulse-type spallation neutron source, a large scientific device focused on construction during the national "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, the largest single investment scale of large scientific project in China so far, and a "national heavy instrument" known as a "super microscope". Its completion is of positive significance to the realization of Dongguan's goal of advancing into an innovative first-tier city, and provides important scientific and technological support for the construction of an international science and technology innovation center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

In 2020, in the face of the sudden impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, Dongguan struggled to win the "double victory" of epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development. On January 24, 2020, Dongguan City set up a leading group for the prevention and control of the pneumonia epidemic caused by the new coronavirus infection, and from January 28 to March 22, three batches of 58 medical personnel were sent to Hubei to participate in the prevention and control of the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic.
