The world of Go is surging and there are many masters, how to rank the top 108 list like the Heroes of the Water Margin? What selection criteria to adopt, and from what time period, these are difficult to reconcile. Therefore, when I revealed that I wanted to introduce this ranking list, some friends advised me not to bother, so as not to criticize; but more friends supported me, and even helped me draft a list of thirty-six generals of tiangangxing. In addition to thanking these kind friends, I decided to reluctantly release my own 108 version.
After collecting information and carefully studying, I determined the selection criteria of the 108 generals: mainly the 104 masters who entered the final four after the founding of the 1988 World Series, supplemented by four Chinese, Japanese and Korean chess players, to form the 108 general lineup. This standard is relatively rigid, resulting in less controversy, and the objection is mainly the ranking of chess players, rather than the problem of selection.
Of course, this standard also has regrets, that is, the top masters who led the Japanese Go era with Showa chess saint Wu Qingyuan, Kitani Shikudan, sakata Eiko Kudan and so on could not be shortlisted. In view of the fact that there was no World Series at that time, although Japan's level was the first in the world, after all, it was a domestic competition in Japan, and it was difficult to arrange the seats, so I could only endure the pain of cutting love.
