In 1932, after three weeks of drifting at sea, Liu Changchun finally arrived in Los Angeles on July 29, and the next day was the opening day of the Olympic Games. At the opening ceremony, Liu Changchun ranked 8th on behalf of China, standing alone among a group of foreign athletes.
The 3-week sea trip also took a huge toll on his physical strength. He signed up for three events: 100m, 200m and 400m. However, due to lack of physical strength, he gave up the 400-meter race, and the two events of 100 meters and 200 meters were not able to qualify, and he regrettably left the field.
The 1932 "Ta Kung Pao" bitterly wrote such a passage: "I, a Chinese athlete, went to the meeting with a single knife, and the country's fortunes are difficult at this moment, may the princes bravely move forward, and may I and other descendants be far away from such suffering in the coming days!"
Su Bingtian, a descendant after 89 years, created history because he stood at a completely different starting point, because China stood on a completely different starting point.
