Curious creatures

A few weeks ago, the Dutch Artis Zoo added another small animal, its name is Javan rat deer, it looks like a small mouse, and it looks like a mini deer. In fact, it belongs to the mammalian order Even-hoofed deer family.

Ungulate mammals include pigs, hippos, camels, deer, antelopes, sheep and goats, and rat deer are the smallest of these. An adult mouse deer is only 45-55 cm long, but the size of a hare. They also don't have a very long lifespan, living on average to 12 years old.

Rat deer are mainly distributed in subtropical or tropical low-humidity forests and are nocturnal animals. They are intelligent, brave and careful by nature, like to hide in the grass during the day, come out at night, and are good at concealment, usually only alone. They are very agile, jump like rabbits when running, and prefer to live in dense bushes in ravines or high grass on hillsides. Interestingly, they temporarily lose the ability to walk once they wade into the water. But when they are captured by humans, they look at people with big, pitiful eyes, blinking, and from time to time they bow their heads and shake their little heads, while making a whimpering sound, as if begging people to let it go. However, due to the extremely delicious taste of rat and venison meat, many people are now hunting rats and deer for sale, so that this species is currently in a worrying situation. (Small Green)
