On the 25th, standing in the once white saline-alkali land and now the golden rice field, Ma Jun, a professor at the Rice Research Institute of Sichuan Agricultural University, excitedly announced to the outside world the results of the 2021 Xing'an League saline-tolerant rice production test in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

On the same day, the 2021 Xing'an League Yuan Longping Rice Academician Expert Workstation High-quality Rice Yield Measurement and "Efficient Utilization Mode of Saline-alkali Land" on-site observation meeting was held at the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Xing'an League Section Right Middle Banner Saline-tolerant Rice Planting Base (hereinafter referred to as the base), and 5 experts from sichuan agricultural university rice research center, Hunan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Xing'an League Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Technology Extension Center and other scientific research institutions randomly sampled three rice fields with an area of 0.98 mu, 0.82 mu and 0.86 mu at the base to measure production.

Finally, the impurities and moisture were removed, and on the saline-alkali land with a PH value of 8.8-9.6 and a salinity content of 5‰-6‰, the actual yield of the three measured fields was 566.40 kg, 513.50 kg and 532.60 kg, respectively, and the average yield of the demonstration pieces of the base was 537.50 kg.

Xing'an League is located in the ecological circle of the southern foothills of Daxing'anling at 46° north latitude and the world's recognized golden belt of cold rice. However, it is one of the world's three major soda saline land distribution areas, and the salinity of the land is higher than six thousandths, which belongs to the land where it is difficult to grow grass.

As we all know, growing rice on saline and alkali land is one of the three dreams of Academician Yuan Longping. This technology can not only improve the ecological environment in saline-alkali land and desert areas, but also solve the problem of rations for the poor in desert areas and double the income of growers.

In 2018, the Xing'an League Yuan Longping Rice Academician Expert Workstation was established here, and a 960-mu saline-tolerant rice base was built.

Academician Yuan Longping once set a goal of "more than 300 kilograms per mu". In 2019, the average yield of the base was 508.8 kg per mu, and the average yield per mu in 2020 was 533.95 kg.

Now, three years later, the once white saline land has long been transformed into a golden rice field, and rice production has increased year by year. "Yuan Mengdao", which was personally named by Academician Yuan Longping, has also become a "dream rice" in the true sense.

Academician Yuan Longping once said that the Xing'an League Yuan Longping Rice Academician Expert Workstation develops and popularizes the "salt-tolerant hybrid rice" varieties and advanced technologies, and after the successful test, it can be promoted to the whole of northern China, and even to countries on the same latitude and the same climate belt.

Qi Shaowu, director of the National Hybrid Rice Engineering and Technology Research Center, said that at present, the National Saline-tolerant Rice Technology Innovation Center (hereinafter referred to as the Center) has established saline-tolerant rice research bases in Xing'an League, Jiangsu, Hainan Wenchang, Jilin Da'an, Guangxi Beihai and other places. Concentrate the global rice scientific research forces in the center, select and breed excellent varieties, improve good cultivation techniques, and strive to produce a result in 2-3 years.

"The global saline-alkali land area is very large, and after Yuan Lao's wish to 'change the saline-alkali land into fertile land' is realized, it will be a major contribution to the food security of China and even the world." Qi Shaowu said. (End)
