One day, when Tai Shi Ci was out on patrol with a soldier, he met Sun Ce and thirty cavalry under his command unexpectedly, and immediately launched a very rare single challenge during the Three Kingdoms period at the end of the Han Dynasty. After a fierce battle, Sun Ce grabbed Tai Shi Ci's hand, and Tai Shi Ci grabbed Sun Ce's helmet. After that, Tai Shi Ci led his troops to retreat to the area around Jing County, and continued to be an enemy of Sun Ce. After a fierce battle, Sun Ce finally captured Taishi Cisheng alive. Sun Ce appointed Tai Shi Ci as the Governor of Jianchang and led his troops in a contest with Liu Pan and Huang Zhong. In the first year of Emperor Xian's reign (190 AD), Liu Dai, Together with Zhang Miao, Zhang Chao, and others, created the Kwantung Alliance and fought against Dong Zhuo. In the third year of Emperor Jian'an (192 AD), hundreds of thousands of Yellow Turban troops invaded Yanzhou. Liu Dai did not heed the advice of Bao Xin, the minister of Northern Ji, and launched a hasty attack, resulting in his death in front of the two armies.

In his early years, Xu Yue studied under the famous astronomer Liu Hong, and further perfected the Qianxiang Calendar, the first calendar he created in ancient China that took into account the unevenness of lunar motion, and made it implemented in Eastern Wu. Xu Yue also wrote two works that occupy an important position in the history of ancient mathematics in China- "The Testament of Mathematics" and "The Use of Arithmetic", especially in the "Arithmetic To Use" to design the style of the abacus, laying a solid foundation for the later development and use of abacus. In the first year of Emperor Yankang's reign (220 AD), Xu Yue died of illness.
