author:Ancient built home official

"Construction of French Style" is a series of architectural design materials and building codes of the Song Dynasty, published in the second year of Chongning (1103) of the Northern Song Dynasty, written by Li Jie, is the first book in China to be promulgated and printed by the ruling class on the ancient architectural design and construction system.

The predecessor of "Construction French Style" was compiled in the sixth year of Yuan You (1091), and there was no definite modulus, it was impossible to determine the materials used for labor, and the regulations for architectural design and construction were relatively unclear.

In the fourth year of Shaosheng (1097), a Northern Song Dynasty architect named Li Jie was ordered to reorganize it. Li Jie (1035–1110), courtesy name Mingzhong, was a native of Guancheng County, Zhengzhou (present-day Xinzheng, Henan). When he received the instructions and compiled the book, he was still a supervisor, and later promoted to a junior supervisor, and finally a supervisor (the supervisor, the young supervisor, and the supervisor were all ancient official positions in charge of the palace architecture).

The Construction of the French Style was officially published in the second year of chongning (1103) of the Northern Song Dynasty, but soon after its promulgation, the Northern Song Dynasty collapsed. The existing "Construction of the French Style" was printed in the Song and Qing dynasties, because it was officially published, so the research value was very high, and the craftsmen in the feudal period would take the standards on the book as the standard.

There is a saying in the book: "The system of building a house is based on the material." "Material" is a standard unit of size, equivalent to modulus. China has been using the modulus system for housing construction since the 12th century. In "Constructing the French Style", the production process of the six color painting systems is recorded in detail. Painted on buckets, poles, beams, and columns, they are decorated with colors and are gorgeous. From this we can see that wooden architecture has reached a very high level in the Song Dynasty.
