On September 26, the second year of Jianyuan (344), Emperor Kang of Jin died. On September 27, the two-year-old crown prince Sima Tan ascended the throne, honoring his mother Empress Dowager Chu as empress dowager, and empress dowager Chu was regent. The following year, it was changed to Yonghe. On October 23 of the same year, Emperor Kang of Jin was buried in Chongping Mausoleum, and on the ninth day of November, the che general Yu Bing died.
Sima Tan, Emperor Mu of Jin
Because Sima Tan was young, Empress Chu was in charge and he Chong was in charge. In the second year of Yonghe (346), on the first day of the first month, He Chong died. On The Day of the Ugly Empire in February, Situ Cai Mo attended the meeting with Sima Yu, the King of The Imperial Household. After that, Zhao Shihu fell ill and died, and the Central Plains was in chaos. During the reign of Emperor Mu of Jin, the Eastern Jin court successively ordered Chu Fu and Yin Hao to go north, but they were unsuccessful.
In the tenth year of Yonghe (354), the Taiwei and Zhenxi general Huan Wen (桓文) was in the Northern Expedition to Guanzhong, defeating Former Qin. Huan Wen also eliminated the Cheng han who had established the state in Sichuan, and recaptured Luoyang in the twelfth year of Yonghe (356), although it was soon retreated due to the lack of grain transportation, and the territory of the Eastern Jin Dynasty was still expanded.
Untimely death
In the fifth year of Shengping (361), on the day of Ding Wei in May, Sima Tan died of illness at the Xianyang Temple at the age of nineteen. After Sima Nie's death, Emperor Mu and Emperor Xiaozong were buried at Yongping Mausoleum (present-day Shannan, a shogunate northwest of Jiangning, Jiangsu).
