Former Lieutenant Yang Biao's Imprisonment Case: Who is the Biggest Victim?

author:Liu Sanxie

In the last program, we talked about one of the two major crimes in the early days of Cao Cao's "holding tianzi", and the possible reason behind the killing of Zhao Yan was not as simple as the blockage of the way of speech by the courtiers, on the contrary, it is precisely because of the fact that zhao Yan was killed, which is rare in the historical records, but shows that before the Battle of Guandu, Cao Cao and Emperor Xiandi of Han got along with each other, and did not focus on torture and intimidation.

Former Lieutenant Yang Biao's Imprisonment Case: Who is the Biggest Victim?

Back to the specific records, the Book of the Later Han Dynasty and the Biography of the Empress mentions:

After the exercise, he entered the palace with things, and the emperor did not allow him to be angry, because he knew: "If the king can complement each other, he will be thick; , pitch out.

The translation is that later Cao Cao saw the emperor in the palace because of official business, and Emperor Xian of Han was furious and said to him, If you can help me, treat me better, if not, please let me go. Cao Cao was shocked and knelt down to ask for it out, and after that, there was an incident in which the tiger sent Cao Cao out with a blade.

According to common sense, if Cao Cao killed Zhao Yan after he had given Emperor Liwei to Han after controlling the palace ban, it would be an act of intimidation, which would be completely counterproductive.

Not only was Emperor Xian of Han not frightened, but he also directly threatened him, if you don't treat me well, just send me away, and then let The Tiger Ben put a sharp blade, if the contradiction between the two intensifies to the point of Dong Zhuo's dictatorship, the Tiger Ben with the halberd can directly learn from Lü Bu and kill Cao Thief on the spot.

However, it did not.

This just shows that Cao Cao killed Zhao Yan only against the personal will of Emperor Xian of Han, making him unhappy, but did not threaten his personal safety, and even the majesty of the imperial power, in the face of Emperor Xiandi's accusations, Cao Cao did not leave the table with a sword, but "bowed out", under the posture of kneeling, prostrating naturally creeping, and leaning is getting up, that is, prostrating and begging, this posture is absolutely obedient.

As far as the whole incident is concerned, Cao Cao should have a sufficient reason to blackmail Emperor Xian of Han, that is, as said in the previous program, Zhao Yan is likely to mention only "Fang Shu Demon Words", not some correct theory. Therefore, Cao Cao forced the emperor to be soft for good reasons, but Emperor Xian of Han was young after all, and he could not swallow this breath, which made such a drama to scare Cao Cao.

Cao Cao's response is also very absolute, "no more than the dynasty", you scare me? I'm not coming, see what you do.

The timing of this incident is also very delicate, and it is mentioned in the "New Language of the World":

In the old system, the three dukes led the troops into the meeting, and all crossed their necks and went forward. In the beginning, the gong will ask for Zhang embroidery, enter the Heavenly Son, and then repeat this system. Since then, the public has not seen the court again.

That is to say, Cao Cao was treated by Emperor Xian of Han during the conquest of Zhang Xiu, and the Chronicle of The Three Kingdoms records that Cao Cao attacked Zhang Xiu three times:

The first time, the first spring of the second year of Jian'an; The second time, In November of the second year of Jian'an; The third time, Jian'an three years in March.

Since Pei Songzhi's Notes on the Three Kingdoms lists this matter at the first time, it is generally believed that Zhao Yan's death should have occurred before the first month of the second year of Jian'an, and that Emperor Xian of Han had moved the capital to Xu County in September of the first year of Jian'an, that is, less than three months after the move to Xu County, and Emperor Xian of Han had already had some conflicts with Cao Cao.

However, this was also the last direct conflict between Cao Cao and Emperor Xian of Han before the Yidaizhao incident, and in the next three years, the two sides were completely at peace with each other, and there was no corresponding record, was it because Emperor Xian of Han no longer touched the power, or Cao Cao relaxed his control, and the two of them changed their sex at the same time?

Of course not, but this year there was an unprecedented major event, Yuan Shu was called emperor, this event not only affected the local princes, but also affected the imperial court.

In the Book of Cao Cao, another charge of Cao Cao is the imprisonment of the former lieutenant Yang Biao, but there is no mention of the reason, which is clearly recorded in the Book of Later Han and the Biography of Yang Zhen:

In the first year of Jian'an, from the eastern capital Xu. When the Tianzi was newly moved, the secretary of the assembly, Yanzhou stabbed Shi Cao Cao to the temple, saw that Biao was displeased, afraid of this picture, did not have a banquet, entrusted the disease to the toilet, because out of the camp. Biao was in a hurry. When Yuan Shu was in turmoil, he married Qiao Biao and Shu, falsely accused him of wanting to abolish it, took him to prison, and impeached him for a great rebellion.

After Jian'an moved the capital to Xu County in the first year, the imperial court held a grand banquet for the secretary of state, and after Yanzhou Assassin Shi Cao Cao went to the palace, he found that Yang Biao was not happy, afraid of accidents at the banquet, and before he could wait for the food, he falsely claimed to go to the toilet and ran back to the military camp. Later, Yang Biao deposed Tai wei because he fell ill, and later caught up with Yuan Shu's claim to be emperor, and Cao Cao slandered him for wanting to depose Tianzi in the name of Yang Biao's marriage with Yuan Shu, and Emperor Xian of Han sent him to prison and investigated him for the crime of rebellion.

This account contains two core pieces of information:

First, the relationship between Yang Biao and Cao Cao;

The second is the crime and procedure of Yang Biao's imprisonment.

Yang Biao was a taiwei (太尉) and a lu shangshushi (錄尚書事) since the first year of Xingping, that is, the imperial court was in power, and after arriving in Luoyang, he also "shou shang shu ling", and was the only ruling duke in the foreign dynasty, and after Cao Cao entered Luoyang, he used the Zhendong general to lead the lieutenant liu shang shushi, taking away some of the foreign dynasty's authority, and there was a conflict of power.

On the other hand, it should also be related to etiquette, the Secretary of State of the Heavenly Son Assembly, and there is a banquet, which can be seen that it is not a "court discussion", but an occasion of "pilgrimage", at this time Cao Cao, there are a bunch of positions, the official is still a speaker, the general number is the General of Zhendong, the position is the commander of the lingsi lieutenant, and the leader of the Yanzhou assassination history, plus the title of Lu Shang Shushi.

Among them, the "general number" and "envoy position" are temporary dispatch duties, and he should not accept the "great general" given to Cao Cao by the Han Xian Emperor, then, Cao Cao's most respected title is only the lieutenant of the leading division, because although the miscellaneous general is a two-thousand-stone official, it is not as good as the special status of the two-thousand-stone lieutenant in the Eastern Han Dynasty Hall.

At the time of the discussion, the lieutenant colonel was even ranked below the three dukes and above the nine secretaries, but at the time of the pilgrimage, the lieutenant colonel was going to be below the nine secretaries, and what is more interesting is that this record emphasizes that Cao Cao is the assassin of Yanzhou, and does not recognize him as the lieutenant of the school, indicating that Yang Biao's real displeasure lies in the fact that on the occasion of the secretary of state, Cao Cao, a six-hundred-stone official, actually ran to the front.

Judging from Yang Biao's previous struggles with Dong Zhuo and Li Dai, he was a person who respected the etiquette tradition very much, and as a member of the Fourth Duke Clan starting from Yang Zhen, and marrying Yuan Shu of the Fourth Dynasty and the Fifth Duke, it was no surprise that he had contempt for Cao Cao after his concubine Yuan Shao and eunuchs.

Because of this, he became the "old enemy" that Yuan Shao named cao cao to kill, and he was also the only public secretary in that list who went to prison and was tortured, and the words of another person on the list to rescue him are also very intriguing, see the original words of Kong Rong, the general master in the Book of Later Han and the Biography of Yang Zhen:

Yang Gong IV Qingde, Hai Nei's view. In the Book of Zhou, the sins of fathers and sons and brothers are not compatible, and the Yuan clan blames Yang Gong. "Yi" said that "accumulating good deeds and yu qing" was deceiving people's ears. "The meaning of this country." Rong Yue: "If King Cheng kills Shao Gong, can Zhou Gong not know evil words?" ”

The translation is that the qingzheng virtue of the four generations of Yang Biao's family spread in The Sea, and the Shangshu Kangxuan says that the crimes of fathers and sons and brothers are irrelevant, and you blame Yang Biao for the usurpation of the Yuan family. Cao Cao replied that this was the meaning of "state", that is, the attitude of Emperor Xian of Han, and Kong Rong retorted, If King Zhou Cheng killed the summoning prince of the auxiliary government, do you dare to say that you don't know?

Kong Rong's first subtext is that it is useless for you to shirk your responsibility, this pot, you have memorized it, the second subtext is also very clear, I know that this "country" is also Yuan Shao, but it is you Cao Cao who killed people, your reputation is completely bad, can you still mix?

Cao Cao had no choice but to release Yang Biao, but he also deeply offended Yuan Shao and caused a series of unknown chemical reactions.

What exactly is the answer, please listen to the next breakdown.
