Lu Yuan named the collar "Don't Forget Me"
In order to facilitate the grandmother with Alzheimer's disease to recognize her family and remind her to go home, Lu Yuan, a second-year junior student at Hangzhou Baochuta Experimental School, invented a "recognition artifact". On November 4, Lu Yuan told the Beijing Youth Daily reporter that the "recognition artifact" is called "Don't Forget Me", which is a collar with a built-in camera. After the "Don't Forget Me" was made, Lu Yuan had given it to his grandmother to try, but because it was not comfortable enough to wear, Lu Yuan was currently further transforming the artifact.
Lu Yuan's instructor, Mr. Lin, said that Lu Yuan's invention is relatively rare among children of the same age, and the school also intends to recommend Lu Yuan's work to participate in science and technology competitions.
Tailor-made "Recognition Artifact" for The Great Grandmother
Lu Yuan, 15, is a student in the eighth grade (second grade) of Hangzhou Baochuta Experimental School. Lu Yuan made a smart mailbox after learning programming in the fourth grade, and in the sixth grade, Lu Yuan made a smart trash can and won the first prize in the provincial competition.
Lu Yuan's grandmother (Lu Yuan's grandfather's sister) suffered from Alzheimer's disease five or six years ago, because his grandfather's family and his grandmother's family lived on the opposite door, and Lu Yuan's relationship with his grandmother was also very close, and he was raised by his grandmother, like his own grandmother.
After the eldest grandmother fell ill, Lu Yuan has always been very concerned. As time passed, Grandma Lu Yuan's illness became more and more serious, "Sometimes Grandma talks to us, and after 3 seconds, she forgets what she just said." Lu Yuan said that when he watched his grandmother lose her memory little by little, forget her relatives, and even forget the way home, his heart was very unhappy.
This summer, Lu Yuan had a sudden idea and spent a holiday time to create a "recognition artifact" tailored for his grandmother. The "Recognition Artifact" is a collar that can be hung around the neck, equipped with a camera, ultraviolet sensors, etc., which can help the grandmother recognize her relatives through face recognition. After the collar was designed, Lu Yuan named the collar "Don't Forget Me".
Mother Reminder adds home reminder function
Speaking of the research and development process of "Don't Forget Me", Lu Yuan said that he initially just wanted to help his grandmother recognize his family, so he only designed a face recognition function on the collar. Later, Lu Yuan's mother pointed out that getting lost was also a problem that plagued the life of the grandmother. Therefore, Lu Yuan added ultraviolet sensing function in "Don't Forget Me". This function can distinguish the wearer from indoor or outdoor according to the intensity of indoor and outdoor ultraviolet rays, if the wearer is outdoors for more than 30 minutes, the collar will remind them to go home and report their home address. To protect privacy, Rikuhara added headphones so that only the wearer could hear the sound.
In the process of research and development, Lu Yuan encountered many technical difficulties, "I have not learned face recognition technology, I do not know much, I can only check the information and find teachers to help." ”
After 2 months of hard work, Lu Yuan made the first "Don't Forget Me" collar and gave the collar to his grandmother to try. "Grandma was very happy when she tried it. At the same time as the grandmother tried it, I also found some problems, the collar is a bit large, not very convenient to carry. Lu Yuan said that at present, he is ready to start to modify the collar to improve the comfort of wearing.
The school plans to recommend the invention to a science and technology competition
For this "don't forget me" collar made by Lu Yuan, Lu Yuan's instructor, Teacher Lin, praised it, "At this age, you can invent this kind of thing, Lu Yuan is very powerful." Teacher Lin said that Lu Yuan's invention is not only an object, but also a heart-warming gift, and many people are moved to hear the story behind it.
Teacher Lin told the Beiqing Daily reporter that the school intends to recommend Lu Yuan's work and the works invented by other students in the school to participate in a computer science and technology competition held in Hangzhou.
