Venus of Milos: What is the handless girl expressing?

author:Dream drunk galaxy

Idle, clicked on a film with a slightly peculiar style and did not follow the mainstream. Like the title, it is slightly different from the title - "Venus of Milos" (aka "The Girl Without Hands").

The image is derived from Douban

This is a completely different way from the ordinary film narrative method, using a brief freehand ink painting style to narrate a dark Grimm fairy tale that we are all familiar with, although it is not vivid enough, but the visual effects are still amazing. The so-called minimalism blossoms into magic.

The development of the story is actually very simple and easy to understand, but to really understand the deep meaning behind it, it still needs a little thought. And I believe that different people will still have different interpretations when they come to see this movie.

Revisit the whole story. The greedy father made a deal with the devil in the midst of his life's predicament, thus obtaining inexhaustible gold, but at the same time inadvertently offering his daughter to the devil. The first time the devil visited, because the daughter was too pure to take away smoothly, he used the recovery of his wealth to blackmail the father, let her take care of the daughter, did not let her bathe, and thus became as dirty as gold. At this time, the father, who was already obsessed with money, could not and did not want to rebel against the devil. The mother who brought water and wanted to bathe her daughter was bitten alive by the dog guarding her daughter under the tree. On the second visit of the devil, because the girl covered her face and wept with pure tears, the devil demanded that the father cut off his daughter's hands. The miller's father was slightly embarrassed by the loss of his wife. But under the threat of intimidation from the devil, he did so.

At this point, the disappointed daughter chose to sacrifice her hands and finally fled the demon, and the father finally lived up to expectations and became a puppet of money.

The fleeing maiden is rescued by the river god and meets the prince while stealing pears from the prince's orchard. The two fell in love at first sight, and the prince customized a pair of gold hands for the girl. Soon after the marriage, the prince had to go out to fight and briefly left the pregnant girl. The demon was able to stir up discord in the prince's family letter and ordered the gardener to kill the heroine and his children. Thankfully, the gardener let go of the girl and her children. With the help of the river god, the girl and her son had a happy time. Soon, the prince returned from defeat and learned the truth from the gardener, so he embarked on a long search journey, along the river, to the beginning of the tragedy - the mill. One of the beginnings of all evil, the mill owner could not bear the mental torture and chose to commit suicide. The prince also finally truly understood the tragic situation of the girl, and at the same time understood the care that the girl really needed. Finally, the family of three became one, and the girl re-grew her hands. The devil also spared the family.

Here are some personal interpretations of some of the plots in the film:

1. An apple tree that has been traded off by a miller. In fact, it is the maiden's Garden of Eden, a warm harbor for everything. Being destroyed by her father can also symbolize the disappointment of the girl's last hope and disappointment in her father.
