Larry Bird (born December 7, 1956 in West Barton, Indiana) is a former U.S. professional basketball player who plays as a big forward/small forward.
Larry Bird was selected by the Celtics with the 6th pick in the first round at the 1978 draft, after which Bird went to college for another year and officially began his career in 1979, and in the next 13 years, Bird began his brilliant career in the Green Army! 1 Rookie of the Year; 3 Championships, 2 Finals fmvp; 3 regular season mvp; 12 All-Stars, 1 All-Star mvp; 9 All-Star, 1 All-Star Second Team; 3 Best Defensive Second Team; 1 Best Athlete; Three-time All-Star Three-Point Champion and 1 Olympic Gold Medal. On August 18, 1992, Larry Bird officially announced his retirement, ending his 13-year career. Larry Bird played 897 games in his career, averaging 24.3 points, 10.0 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game with 21,791 points (ranked 36th all-time), 8,974 rebounds (54th all-time) and 5,695 assists per game.
