On February 24, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress adopted the Decision on Completely Banning illegal wildlife trade, eliminating the bad habit of indiscriminately eating wild animals, and effectively protecting the people's life, health and safety.

The current Wildlife Protection Law is limited to the prohibition of eating wild animals under national key protection and other protected wild animals that have no legal source and have not passed quarantine, and cannot reflect the orientation of a comprehensive ban on the consumption of wild animals. All terrestrial wild animals include captive breeding and captivity.

Aquatic wildlife such as fish;
More common livestock and poultry (such as pigs, cattle, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, etc.);
Animals of the Inventory of Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources (including pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, cattle, horses, camels, sheep, etc.);
Artificial breeding has been used for a long time, the technology is mature, the people have been widely accepted, the output value and practitioners formed have a certain scale, and some play an important role in poverty alleviation. (e.g. rabbits, pigeons, etc.)
According to Xinhua Daily, there are about 54 species of domesticated and bred terrestrial wild animals that cannot be eaten but are currently being used for commercial operation (the final list published by the relevant departments shall prevail).
Even if a wild animal is caught by oneself and does not enter the market for trade, if it is found and the source cannot be explained, it will still be punished.
In addition, considering that the Decision will indeed have a greater impact on farmers in some mountainous and remote areas, and some places may use it as an industry for targeted poverty alleviation, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress requires local governments to strengthen guidance, give certain economic compensation, and assist in transformation or adjustment. It is worth noting that if it is the purpose of scientific research, pharmaceuticals, and display, after strict approval, it can still be artificially bred, and others are prohibited.
In fact, as long as you remember one sentence, all terrestrial wild animals cannot be eaten, nor can they be artificially raised, except for livestock and poultry.
The "Decision" also stipulates that the illegal consumption and trade of wild animals shall be severely punished, and the punishment shall be increased on the basis of the existing legal provisions for those who hunt, trade, transport or eat wild animals in violation of the Wildlife Protection Law and other relevant laws and regulations. Illegal business sites and illegal business operators shall be banned, sealed or closed down in accordance with law.
