Smooth power corridors benefit millions of households

At 10:00 a.m. on December 4, 2020, the State Grid Co., Ltd. Ali and Tibet-China Power Grid Interconnection Project (hereinafter referred to as the "Ali Interconnection Project") was officially announced and put into operation, solving the problem of power shortage in western Shigatse and Ali region.

Since 2016, the State Grid Tibet Electric Power Co., Ltd. has completed a total of 49.4 billion yuan of power grid investment, and more than 100,000 project builders have built four "power heavenly roads" in Qinghai-Tibet, Sichuan-Tibet, Tibet-China and Ali, allowing thousands of households in Tibet to use electricity with confidence.

Over the mountains to build a route

Xue Feng, an employee of the State Grid Tibet Power Qamdo Power Supply Company, still remembers the moment when Dingqing County was connected to the state grid in the winter of 2017 - that day, he and the engineers of the Qamdo Power Supply Company came to Dingqing, spent a day debugging and testing, and finally realized the power on the same day.

Many parts of Qamdo have high mountains and deep valleys, and the roads are extremely steep. Several meters wide mountain roads, often with towering mountains on one side and bottomless cliffs on the other. The difficulty of building a power grid in this terrain can be imagined. Dingqing, Luolong and Bianba were the last counties in Changdu to be connected to the power grid, and the previous county power supply was mainly through hydropower, photovoltaics and small generators.

"In Qamdo, there is a lot of snow in winter, the roads are icy, and all kinds of construction machinery cannot be used. As a result, we only have 5 to 8 months of actually effective construction time in a year. Xue Feng told reporters.

Climbing over mountains is the norm for project construction. Because there is no road, sometimes even professional mountaineers are hired to participate in the construction of the project. Electric towers that appear to be built on the side of the road often take 40 minutes to more than an hour to walk from the road to reach, and in some places, they even have to cross the river by zipline.

"A lot of the tower construction is on the top of the mountain, and some mountains are almost no one has ever climbed. In order to erect the tower, we climbed these mountains. Xue Feng said.

Among the three counties, Bianba is the farthest from Qamdo. Construction workers have repeatedly encountered situations where building materials cannot be transported by large trucks: sometimes the bridge is too narrow for vehicles to pass; sometimes the poles are too long to turn on the mountain road. In the face of various difficulties, the construction personnel can only find a way to solve, and the large trucks cannot pass, so they can only be transported by small tractors or horse gangs.

According to statistics, the main power grid in Tibet covered 58 counties (districts) at the end of 2015, with a power supply population of 2.184 million people, and by the end of 2020, it has covered all 74 counties (districts) with a power supply population of about 3.3 million people.

Livelihood

The days passed and the more comfortable it became

"It used to be rare to watch TV at home." On the same day of this year's Tibetan New Year and the first day of the Lunar New Year, Qijia, a villager in Baina Village, Dazi District, Lhasa City, gathered together to watch the Spring Festival Gala happily. A few years ago, his home lighting did not dare to use high-power incandescent bulbs, "afraid of suddenly turning on the electricity after the power outage to burn out the electrical appliances, before the family did not dare to buy any household appliances." Chia said.

Although it belongs to Lhasa, the capital of the autonomous region, many places in Dazi District have been "old and difficult" in the use of electricity. "The fragility of power lines is a big bottleneck in rural power development." Han Hanqiang, director of the transportation and inspection department of Dazi Power Supply Company, said, "In 2016, the townships in the eastern part of Dazi had to trip almost every day, and we often went out in the morning for maintenance, came back at noon and broke again, and continued to go out in the afternoon." ”

After the transformation and upgrading of the rural network, the People of Dazi have completely bid farewell to the suffering of frequent power outages, and some high-power household appliances can also be used with confidence.

A few days after completing the transformation of the power grid, Qijia specially purchased a batch of new electrical appliances - the first one was a ghee mixer. During the Chinese New Year, this blender became an important tool for making ghee at home. "Compared to the previous handmade ghee, it is labor-saving and efficient!"

Not only that, when the power supply company lays lines in the countryside, it also works on engineering projects. Poles, pole climbing, cable handling... After a few months of project construction, it earned more than 10,000 yuan.

Since 2016, Tibet has actively used local workers in the construction of power grid projects, driving local farmers and herdsmen to increase their income by 1.318 billion yuan, and using 1.4747 million local labors. In 2020 alone, the construction of electricity in Tibet will increase the income of local farmers and herdsmen by 293 million yuan.

Today, the family sits in the living room of the family, lights a bright electric lamp, watches the newly purchased TV, and drinks machine-made butter tea... The days passed and the more comfortable it became.

"With the transformation of the rural power grid, the electricity consumption in Dazi District has more than doubled compared with before." Han Hanqiang said, "Electricity consumption is growing day by day, which means that the quality of life of the masses is improving day by day." Looking at the lights of wanjia is our happiest moment. ”

Development adds new momentum

As the last region in the Tibet Autonomous Region to be connected to the national grid, the counties in ali region were once trapped by insufficient electricity and were in a hurry to guard the rich tourism resources and industrial resources.

"Everyone must remember to recharge during the day!" There's going to be a power outage tonight!" He Longshou, the head of the agricultural and electrical work department of the State Grid Tibet Electric Power Co., Ltd., once went to Ali on a business trip, and just stayed in the hotel, he received a "power outage notice" from the front desk of the hotel.

"Because of frequent power outages, the hotel not only has high operating costs, but also cannot expand its scale." Dawa Puchi, a hotel manager in Saga County, Shigatse City, said. As an important transit point on national highway 219, Saga's tourism industry is booming, and many hotels have been opened in the county seat. However, because the county relies on hydroelectric power, hotels in the county seat can only provide their own generators. Voltage instability is not to say, a day of fuel costs to one or two thousand yuan.

With the operation of the Ali networking project, electricity is no longer a bottleneck, hotel operating costs have been greatly reduced, and many hotel owners in Saga County are ready to expand their scale.

Walking into the rice processing plant in Ritu Village, Ritu County, Ali Region, the machine rumbles. Today, the production of rice dumplings in factories is all driven by electricity – cleaning, frying, grinding, packaging, mechanized production at every step.

"Now that the 'big grid electricity' is connected, the production is more stable and the cost is reduced." Phuntsok Tsering, director of the rice mill, said. The rice, incense and wool processing plant in Ritu Village has absorbed 30 disabled people and poor household laborers, allowing them to achieve employment at their doorstep.
