A redditor posted about the dashing duck, while Dick King-smith, a children's writer who often writes about animals, tweeted a photo of the duck and was widely retweeted. In response to Longboi's appearance on Twitter, others also shared photos of tall ducks they had taken themselves and joked about longboi's origin story. One Twitter user even made Long Boi's Photoshop impressionist painting "Sunday Afternoon on Big Bowl Island."

While some sources claim that long boi is a mallard duck that is more than 3 feet (one meter) long, Snows points out that not all of the information circulating about the duck is correct. First, the fact-checking website says, it's not a mallard, but a hybrid between the mallard and the Indian running duck, a larger duck species that can grow up to 2.5 feet (about 0.75 meters) tall.

Given that it is a member of a tall species, long boi may not be the largest duck in the world. Still, it's not just the appearance of the long boi that deserves attention.

"Long Boi will receive his honorary degree at this year's commencement ceremony in appreciation of his service to the University, where he will officially become Dr Long Boi," York University said.
