Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar's new film "Parallel Mother" held its global premiere that night, thus kicking off the Venice International Film Festival. The famous Italian actor and director Bernini, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for starring in "A Beautiful Life", was awarded the Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement at the opening ceremony. Italian President Mattarella and others attended the opening ceremony.
A total of 21 films from this year's film festival have been shortlisted for the main competition unit, and films from nearly 60 countries and regions will participate in the awards and screenings of different units of the film festival.
This year's Venice International Film Festival will close on the 11th. As the epidemic situation in Italy is still severe, the organizers have taken strict epidemic prevention measures, including wearing masks and showing a COVID-19 vaccination certificate or a negative nucleic acid test certificate when entering the film festival venues, and the attendance rate of the screening hall should not exceed 50%.
The Venice International Film Festival in Italy, together with the Cannes International Film Festival in France and the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany, are called the three major international film festivals in Europe.
