The staff of the Pu'er Border Management Detachment in Yunnan province told the surging news that on June 29, the institute and the local forestry station jointly carried out legal publicity through going deep into the villages under its jurisdiction to mobilize villagers to protect wild animals, and if there is captivity, they take the initiative to hand them in.
"The ecological environment here is good, and there are many wild animals. Some villagers will pick up abandoned little monkeys and take them home to feed, and they don't know if they will break the law, and now they will issue an announcement to actively carry out activities and publicity to popularize relevant laws and regulations to villagers. The above-mentioned staff said that during the activity, as long as the villagers take the initiative to hand in captive wild animals, they will not be punished.
The Nuofu Border Police Station has received 12 monkeys handed in by villagers, and after expert identification, it has been confirmed that 10 of them are rare national first-level protected wild animals flat-top monkeys (northern dolphin-tailed monkeys).

Due to captivity, they have lost their independent survival in the wild and are not suitable for release. At present, 12 monkeys have been handed over to the Pu'er Sun River National Forest Park Rescue Station for shelter and rescue, and then released into nature after they have the ability to survive in the wild.
The staff of the Pu'er Border Management Detachment in Yunnan said that in the next step, the Nuofu Border Police Station will continue to unite with relevant functional departments to continuously publicize the importance of wildlife protection and relevant laws and regulations to the masses throughout the township by means of household mobilization, posting announcements, broadcasting and shouting, severely cracking down on illegal and criminal activities such as indiscriminate hunting and illegal trade in wild animals, and effectively safeguarding the safety of wild animal populations.
According to a previous report by Xinhua News Agency, the flat-topped monkey is scientifically known as the Northern Dolphin Tail Monkey, which has a pig-like tail and a "plate inch" hairstyle, and its body is agile. It is a diurnal, omnivorous animal, often 20 or 30 groups of "travel", living a "family" group life, mainly choosing evergreen or semi-evergreen broad-leaved forest areas with sufficient food sources, high ecological environment quality and dense foliage as habitats. At present, the northern dolphin-tailed monkey is included in the first-level protection level of the "List of Wild Animals under National Key Protection".
