How to choose a base ewe? Senior sheep farmers tell you 6 points!

This year's sheep price can be said to be very ideal, fattening goat prices can basically reach 15 yuan / kg, fattening sheep prices can basically reach 12 yuan / kg, many sheep farmers who quit due to poor market conditions in the past few years began to return to the old business, but also many novices into the sheep industry, which in turn led to a repeated increase in demand for basic ewes, it can be said that ewes are reserved as breeding sheep, so how can sheep farmers choose good basic ewes? As a senior sheep farmer, I will tell you about the relevant experience I have summarized over the years.

How to choose a base ewe? Senior sheep farmers tell you 6 points!

1. Variety selection

For most sheep farmers, there are no grazing conditions and can only be house-fed, so it is necessary to choose sheep that are fast-growing, fertile and suitable for captivity. Sheep can choose lake sheep, small tail cold sheep, Duhu hybrid one or two generations, Du Han hybrid one or two generations, etc. as the basic ewe, these breeds of sheep are not only individual large, fast growth and strong reproductive force, but DuHu, Du Han hybrid sheep The higher the fecundity will be worse, generally after reaching three or four generations, basically there is not much difference between purebred Du Bo sheep, a litter will produce a lamb; goats can choose Boer goats, boza goats or other goat breeds, in short, must be individual large, Goat breeds with fast growth and fertility can be used as basic ewes.

2. Genetics

Even in the same breed of ewe, there will be some differences in fertility, we can choose the mother lamb under the multi-fetal ewe to keep the seed, which will retain the multi-fetal gene to a large extent. In the process of raising sheep, we can also select species in a targeted manner, for example, we have been choosing the lambs under the multiple ewes to keep the seeds, and at the same time continuously eliminating the low-yield ewes, then I believe that in a few years, the fertility of the flock will be significantly improved.

3. Individual choice

The selection of ewes must also be accurate to the individual, and many sheep farmers buy in groups without selection, which will definitely include some poor quality or unsuitable ewes. Suitable for breeding ewe head size is uniform, neck slender, long body, large skeleton, especially the hip must be wide, breast development is good, so that ewe is more conducive to reproduction.

4, do not buy pregnant sheep

Many sheep farmers like to buy pregnant ewes, thinking that it is faster to buy pregnant ewes, but when they buy them back to raise them for a while, they find that most ewes are not pregnant. Everyone must remember a sentence "rather buy the ground to run, do not buy the belly", especially when the sheep price market is good, the real quasi-pregnant and good ewe believes that few sheep farmers are willing to sell, selling some ewes that have repeated infertility or other problems, claiming that pregnant ewes are good to sell some two to increase the price of sheep. Special attention must be paid to the delivering ewe that claims to be pregnant, which is likely to be a problem sheep, and for young ewes who claim to be pregnant, they must be purchased as if they are not pregnant.

5. Youth is the best

The problem of the production of ewes has been said above, and the ewe lamb is too small to be fed for a period of time before breeding, its benefit cycle is too long, compared to the youth ewe is the most cost-effective, one is that the price of young ewes is not too high, basically slightly higher than the price of meat, second, young ewes generally do not have reproductive problems, and third, young ewes can breed in a short period of time.

6, sheep are healthy

It is also very important to select sheep for health, otherwise it is necessary to treat and condition the sick sheep for a long time, and in severe cases, the emergence of mass disease may lead to the total destruction of the herd. Healthy sheep react quickly, move quickly, eat and ruminate normally, coat is shiny, good condition, while sick sheep are mentally weak, unresponsive, feeding and rumination are reduced or even abolished, the coat is dull and dull, thin, runny nose, cough, body temperature increase and physical weakness.

These are some of my personal thoughts on the selection of basic ewes, and you are welcome to add them!
