This friendship spanning 40 years has become a good story in the Chinese volleyball arena.
In September 1979, the 22-year-old Chen Zhonghe was transferred to the Chinese women's volleyball team as a sparring partner, and since then he has known Lang Ping, who is three years younger. At that time, Lang Ping already had a certain reputation, and Chen Zhonghe, who came from the grassroots, was still a little nervous. On the first day, Yuan Weimin arranged for Chen Zhonghe to train with Lang Ping, and Chen Zhonghe was impressed by Lang Ping: "She is a strong, competitive, and unyielding athlete, who can endure hardships and has a tenacity, we now call it 'domineering', playing to a very crazy state." ”
In every training class of the old women's volleyball team, Chen Zhonghe and Lang Ping and other girls crawled and fought together. In 1981, Lang Ping became famous in the World Cup, after which the old women's volleyball team won the "five consecutive championships", and there was also the sweat of the unsung hero Chen Zhonghe behind it.
Chen Zhonghe, who always laughs and giggles on the surface, is called "aggressive rooster" by Lang Ping's old women's volleyball players, and has a straightforward personality. In the Chinese women's volleyball team, he has never held any thoughts in his heart, and if he has grievances, he will say. But in the final analysis, he is well aware of his identity, and after the opinion is mentioned, whether the head coach accepts it or not, he can continue to carry out the head coach's orders unconditionally.
In the years of cooperation, Chen Zhonghe and Lang Ping have established extraordinary trust and tacit understanding. In 1995, Lang Ping served as the head coach of the Chinese women's volleyball team for the first time, Chen Zhonghe served as an assistant coach, and the two led the Chinese women's volleyball team to win the silver medal at the Atlanta Olympic Games, which was the best result of the team after the old women's volleyball team won five consecutive championships.
Outside of work, the two are also very good friends. Chen Zhonghe and Mandarin have a Fujian accent, Lang Ping specially taught him; Chen Zhonghe likes to smoke, Lang Ping always told him that "you can't smoke when you have a meeting"; Chen Zhonghe likes to drink kung fu tea, and Lang Ping waits for him to drink the rest every time before drinking it.
After the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, the Volleyball Management Center selected a new coach for the Chinese women's volleyball team, Chen Zhonghe was eager to try, but he still couldn't open up in action, and he voted for another candidate, Hu Jin. However, Lang Ping gave Chen Zhonghe the greatest encouragement and trust, and voted for him with his important vote, and the final choice of the drainage center was also him. This time, Chen Zhonghe did not resign.
When Chen Zhonghe was forming a team, he also consulted with Lang Ping on the use of individual team members. Lang Ping encouraged him, "You have to trust your instincts, and if you see the right person, don't change your mind because of the outside world." The manager must have his own design for the team. A few years later, Chen Zhonghe brought out another Olympic champion.
In 2005, Lang Ping received an invitation from the American Volleyball Association to coach the American women's volleyball team. She was a little moved, but she didn't know how the Chinese people would look at her, so she called Chen Zhonghe across the ocean for the first time. Chen Zhonghe said, "Very good, this is to show the world China's strength, there is nothing wrong with it." With his support, Lang Ping was relieved to take over the American women's volleyball team.
At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Chen Zhonghe and Lang Ping also led a direct dialogue between the Chinese and American women, staged a "war of peace" that attracted national attention, and the two deliberately reduced their contact at that time, but their friendship did not change at all.
Today, Lang Ping, who coached the Chinese women's volleyball team for the second time, is still fighting in the front line, Chen Zhonghe has retired, and the two still see each other occasionally. The Chinese women's volleyball team trains in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, every year, Chen Zhonghe usually comes to visit old friends, and the "peaceful" friendship continues forty years later.
